Gosselin's top 100

Let's all pray to the football gods that Jerry doesn't try and get cute with this and trade down.

Never draft a thief... everyone at the draft should have a "Not Cam Newton's" sticker on their laptops. That would be hilarious.

wow Nate Solder at 13? PFW has him at 24 and NFP at 61 crazy i wonder why Goose likes him so much more than the others.

Normally Goose polls actual football GMs, scouts, etc... and gets a consensus grade based upon his NFL contacts. So his list is put together differently than the others.

Comes straight from NFL people. these arnt his evaluations, its all based on info he gathers from his NFL contacts.

Year in and year out he is by far the most accurate.

Me too. I can't go another season w/ Colombo on the right side. Smith is 20 years old. If he pans out. We may have a 15 year starter.

If the draft plays out this way and he's usually pretty accurate, there would be some really good value later on and I wouldn't be against trading down.

sproting news has him at 14. They really liked his athleticism giving him top grades for initial quickness and mobility.

There's *no way* I roll the dice on a QB if I'm the Panthers. Way too risky with this lot.

I take the best defender and don't look back. They'll be in position to draft a QB again next year with better options available and not so much risk.

Yep.

The only way I would consider taking Newton is if my franchise were in the dumps, the fans weren't turning out and you needed a "buzz" player to bring some excitement back to the franchise. But, by and large, Carolina supports their team rather well and they don't have attendance problems.

The problem for Carolina is I don't really like the top tier defensive players other than Fairley (and supposedly he's a homicidal maniac). I worry that Peterson is going to weigh 235 by the time he's 26 years old, and I simply need more on the field production for the #1 pick than what Dareus provided. I'm sorry ... 12.5 combined sacks, TFLs and and QB knockdowns in your final year in college now translates to a Top 3 pick in the draft? Talk about setting the bar low.

He's not predicting future success in the NFL, he's predicting where players will get drafted.

And in the case of Brewster, who was picked with the 75th pick in the draft, he was right.

So? He's putting together a top-100 based on input from the NFL teams themselves. Not his thoughts on how good a player is or will be.

Teams had the guy rated as a 3rd or early 4th rd pick, and thats where he went.

Mayock and Casserly both think Gabbert is right up there with (but slightly below) Ryan and Stafford as a prospect.

I would put him ahead of Cam, but not up there with those guys. Maybe I'm underestimating Newton.

Still, if I'm Carolina, I'm
1) trying to trade down, but not too much or
2) taking Green or Dareus

This list is NOT about who Goose likes. It's a consensus list of how NFL scouts and GMs are ranking players. This list trumps PFW, NFP, or any other list that's out there.

Not Dareus?
I think he'll be strong.

James Carpenter at 41 if they draft Watt in the first.

I heard Gosselin on NFL Network last night. He stated that Dallas had Tyron Smith rated ahead of Watt. Also, he stated that Rob Ryan was making a strong push for Watt.

Jason Garrett is the x-factor; all he has to do is follow Dallas' board and draft Smith. Garrett has been here longer than Ryan. He's the head coach/offensive coordinator. He has been trying to call games and game plan around the weaknesses of his line for years, and I'm betting that he's sick of it. Garrett will draft Tyron Smith at 9, by just following Dallas' board.

If you look at this list, Nate Solder could be rated behind Smith. That would be my fallback option.

I think Garrett has a long-term vision, and Smith and Solder would be my top two OTs.

Plus, Smith is ready to plug and play and get the job done, now.

I still think Carpenter's best position will be at guard.

I saw your Don Banks post.

That makes me feel even more confident.

Not only is Garrett probably tired of calling plays and game planning around his significantly deteriorated offensive line, I bet he's ready to put the premium investment back in the offensive line. The value is Tyron Smith at 9.

No., player Pos. School
3, Patrick Peterson CB LSU
7, Tyron Smith OT Southern California
11, J.J. Watt DE Wisconsin
16, Anthony Castonzo OT Boston College
20, Mike Pouncey C Florida
21, Gabe Carimi OT Wisconsin

Well, this ranking would seem to be very supportive of what we seemt o have gleaned of the Cowboys' 1st-round strategy.

Trade up to 5 or 6 for Peterson = value
Stay at 9 and take Smith = value
Trade down a few spots for Watt = value
Trade down a bit further for Castonzo/Carimi/Pouncey = reasonable

I didn't know you liked this guy :D

seriously it's either Smith or a trade up for PP I don't want to trade down for a less talented guy just to pick up a extra pick. These 2 guys are elite prospects let's get one of them.
