Just called DirecTV and was able to get a great deal by telling them I wanted to move to Dish (talking to the customer retention office). I got a HD DVR for $99 + 15 handling and then they agreed to give me Super Fan for free ($100 value) and 6 months of a $10 discount. I figure it saved me:

$100 HD DVR
$60 (basically HD programming for 6 months free)
$100 Super Fan for free

That is a $260 discount and I get to watch the cowboys in HD. If any of you are looking to move to HD, I would suggest doing the same.

Awesome. What is the customer retention #? The one I have no longer works, but it is like, 2 years old.

Wow. Thanks, FL. I already have a free DVR from DirecTV. I wonder if they'll give me a free HD DVR in addition to the existing one.

I called the same thing and he offered me:

1. $60 off 6 months
2. Superfan for free

But then i remembered I did'nt have HBO to watch Hard Knocks, and then i asked if i could get a HBO Trial just to be able to watch it. He hesitated but then agreed and gave me 90 days Free HBO

The customer retention line is: 1800-824-9081

All you have to do is tell them your switching to dish, because i did this last season and got shot down several times.

Yeah, I have to go ahead and call them tomorrow as they've already charged me once for it. Knew this was coming, and also needed to call to get some free HBO. Tried to e-mail them to see if I could be lazy, but they're gonna make me work for it. Oh well, no biggy.

Just something for you think about here, buddy-- it's highly likely that some of our members work for DirecTV, perhaps even in the corporate office... and if you guys keep on woofin' about how you've scammed DirecTV out of some choice freebies, they just might make that scam known at the highest levels in the company, and you might wind up killing the goose that lays the golden egg...

IOW, take your freebies, grin, and keep your mouths shut... :D

Got Superfan for free today, but had to pay for HBO, but I didn't try too hard on that part. I did get Cinemax for free while I do have HBO though.

I've had the NFL ticket since the very beginning and even though
the price has about doubled over the years it's the best deal anywhere.
However, Direct TV is terrible if you live any where that you get stormy weather like here in Florida. The screen is always freezing up,it's very frustrating.
I would rather go back to the big dish days if it were still possible.

You don't need to know it. When the automated operator asks for the reason you are calling say "Cancel Service". You won't be on hold long if any time at all...

It works for any issue you call about...

I guess you are right, but how is it a scam?

we get storms all the time here in Atlanta, and I rarely lose the signal...and the few times I do its out a few mins and then back on...

Other than charging for each receiver per month I really dont have any complaints...the picture quality cant be matched and then there's Sunday Ticket

I'm in TN and I lost signal all the time. It didn't have to rain. If the wind started blowing I'd lose signal.

And since I get all the Cowboys games on local tv I didn't have a reason to keep a dish.
