My first thought is to simply shake my head at DC, but I'm going to forstall judgment until I have seen a few episodes of this... 'prequel'...

Well I have high hopes for this show, Arrow is amazing so I really hope Gotham steps up to that level of production.

I do enjoy the casting of Gordon.

Selina Kyle, ehhhhh I have to remind myself that she is the pre teen version of catwoman.

They really are pressing DC in our faces for the justice league movie.

The problem is that DC hero's are universally less accepted than marvel. From what I've seen of justice league its gonna suck on green lantern.

Its got a built in limited life span

More TV shows should stick to limited life spans.

They are? All of them? Superman and Batman are universally loved. Perhaps their other characters aren't as well regarded, but I Bats and Supes are on par in popularity with any of the top Marvel characters.

And Wonder Woman and Flash are popular. People can't wait till they get their own movies.

Kind of reminds me of Caprica, the BSG prequel.

I really liked Caprica. Then they mashed the last few episodes due to cancelation.

In others news... I would love a David Banner prequel. Maybe in movie form though.

The rapper? Just kidding. I don't think a prequel would be that interesting. You need The Hulk.

batman had a good run lately with "the dark knight", but the ones before that were pretty bad. mr freeze? it was like bad tv all over again. even the latest man of steel was pretty bad, to me. however, globally it did pull in around $650 mil. i just couldn't stand seeing the entire city demolished worse than even pacific rim. didn't care for the acting and the rocket launches he did when taking off.

but when you look at Thor, Avengers, Thor 2, Iron Man 1-3, X-Men, Wolverine (you could argue his solo films didn't do as well) Spiderman (any run will do but i am enjoying this last run even if electro was pretty badly done) and so forth.

of course they keep trying to do Hulk movies and they should ban any future attempt to try again. daredevil wasn't too terrible but they never should have made the electra movie. so yea, a few poo-bombs in their cellar. the last spiderman movie from the previous series however contained the worst scene ever put into a movie with peter parker dancing like a giggalo down the sidewalk.

as a comic collector i just grew up on marvel OR indie characters for the most part. firestorm was my favorite DC character and i had to giggle like a little school girl to find out you have to scream SHAZAM to get your powers. outside that, we have:

the dark knight, series won 2 oscars.
man of steel - marginal to me but i'll concede to its success.

then we have:
green lantern. i smelled poo bomb the instant they announced the movie cause the comic book always had goofy looking characters. squids in a bubble trying to look like a hero and so forth.
jonah hex
catwoman
various earlier superman movies (richard pryor stealing money?)
and in general, my overall feeling is the justice league will make some money simply cause comic book movies are pretty popular today but as of today (just read wiki) no script, no director, and it even being done now will depend on the success of batman / superman.

it's all preference, to be sure. marvel for some reason (cough stan lee cough) just had the better base of heros to work with.

I

Agree to disagree. They keep rebooting these movies, keep doing origins.

I think they could definitely build on TV show storyline.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Incredible_Hulk_(1978_TV_series)

What would be interesting about Banner before he ever became The Hulk? Gotham is going to focus mostly on Jim Gordon and his development as a character. I'm not sure if that will be enough to draw a huge audience, but his character is probably more interesting than a pre-Hulk Banner. Banner and Hulk are synonymous. I just don't think you can have one without the other. At least not for a whole movie or many episodes of a TV show. A Peter Parker movie would not be interesting without Spider-Man(this last one wasn't interesting with Spider-Man). Tony Stark without Iron Man would struggle. The same hold for pretty much any character and alter ego.

i was mixing and matching between the 2.

but i mean characters like:
elongated man. even a rip off character deserves a better name.
booster gold - hero for hire!
krypto - we all need a superdog with a cape.
catman - yes, i'm serious
blue beetle
blue devil (but at least he was funny)
larfleeze? this one is even new to me:
Several billion years ago a group of thieves consisting of Larfleeze (who was their leader), Chattle, Flob,Blooch, and Turpa of the planet Ogatoo performed for a mysterious buyer what was perhaps the greatest heist ever pulled in the history of the universe. The group stole a monumental amount of treasures and relics from the planet Maltus, including a box containing Parallax and a section of an ancient map that had originally belonged to Krona.

whoever comes up with some of these names, fire them.

i could go on but now i wanna go see some of marvels flops.

absorbing man - bwahahahaha
batroc the leaper
beta ray bill but i thought he was kinda cool
colonel america...i kid you not
fat cobra - bwahahahahahaha

man marvel has a TON of characters out there.

the last one had some moments but i don't think it was as good as the previous, although i like this peter parker better.
