GRADE DALLAS's OFF-SEASON

B-

Letting go of Keyshawn to sign TO was ********. TO is and always has been incredibly overrated. There is no reciever that is worth paying 10 million a year, expecially not TO. Glover was hands down our best lineman last year, at a position where top talent is hard to come by. We could have kept Keyshawn and Glover for the same price that we signed TO for.

Everything else I like. FA is about addressing your needs and getting depth and I thought we did a god job of that in getting quality players like Kosier, Ayodele, Vanderjact, and Fabini.

As long as we get a first rate LB and a top FS in the draft it will have been a good offseason. I still wish that Jerry would leave ALL the decisions to Parcells and Co.

The only player lost that will hurt is Glover.
Losing Dat will hurt. He was the captain of the defense and I doubt anybody else on the defense could recognize plays like he could. He was about as smart a player as a coach could ask for.

I agree TO kills us. He is an aggressive cancer that has no diagnosis yet. He will score and he will help us win, talent-wise he is awesome but I hate the F**ke*. We could have done better by getting quality depth wih the money and keeping key and signing Joe Jurevicius.

Can I say again I just hate TO. And I wish we would have kept LA and Glover.

A
but all we need to address is the FS need. I would like for us to get Marcus Coleman, who had 7 INT's just 2 seasons ago in the 2003 season. We need to get him(He is also a Parcells guy) Thats all we need and we will be straight, i still think we get an A. We have made big moves and addressed our needs!!!!

Gave us a B.

The holes that we filled we filled admirably but until free safety is resolved a B is the best they can do in my eyes.

Killer, while a great guy, may very well have been the worst free safety in the league last season.

Ummm no... Glover was the best player we had on the team, his reduced role can be attributed to Parcells and his 3-4 crap.

In 2002 Glover may have played to Newman's level in 2005. In 2003 and 2004 he wasn't even close to Newman's level in 2005. The same could be said Roy's play in 2005 versus Glover's play.

Glover wasn't even close to being the best defensive player on the team regardless of what scheme, system or philosophy the Cowboys played in because he simply wasn't on Newman or Williams' level in 2003 & 2004, when they played a 4-3 scheme.

Lost 2 Probowl players from last year (Glover,Allen), and two more who have made the probowl (Dat, Keyshawn) and gained two pro-bowlers in TO,Vanderjact and some younger guys or BP guys.

Loss in proven talent so far. It may work out for the better due to youth, but if this is it -- they will have to prove it to me first.

pro bowl doesnt really mean much nemore i dont think, look at in the nba, and yao ming, he missed a lot of games before the all star break and still was the leading vote getter b/c of china is allowed to vote, its alllllll a popularity contest in my mind.......

Off season this year started out rough... with the delay in FA and all... then it got rolling but dallas seemed to be out of the mix of things for the first week or so signing Kosier and Ayoedle... things picked up after than signing Fabini and hanam... then the grand daddy of all FAs came to town in TO and finaly we got Vanderjagt....

TO will be awsome in our scheme as long as he can keep his little Tude in check... if his lips stay shut he will bloom in dallas!

Vandgerjagt is however my favorite off season signing! dallas has been in need of a solid kicker for what seams like forever! Vanderjagt is the most accurate kicker in NFL history! granted he kicked his whole home career in a dome but dallas is a semi dome any way... he will do very well!

i cant wait to see what happens next!

We've improved as a whole, especially in the offensive line and recieving core. But I'd have rather we signed Ashworth than Fabini. We still have a glaring hole at LBer and free Safety that MUST be addressed early in the draft. So I'll give us a B we put ourselves in position to be a complete team by draft time.

Since the pro bowl is pretty much a joke any more, judging our roster by players gained or lost based solely on appearances in it doesn't seem logical to me.

I give them an A for the following moves:

Dumping Key - player in decline and unhappy with contract
Dumping LA - player in decline and expensive
Dumping Glover - player in decline and expensive
Not re-signing Campbell - player in decline
Signing Fabini - should be good stopgap for a couple of years at reasonable price. Any move that keeps Tucker and Petitti on the bench is an A.

I give them a B for the following moves:

Signing Kosier - should be decent guard and gave us flexibility to cut LA loose. He is fairly young, has some upside and great versatility.

Signing Ayodele - should be a solid 3-4 ILB with some pass rush skills. We should be stronger up the middle this year

Signing Hannam - good blocker and young. Probably better receiver than Campbell.

Signing Boiman - we need another LB who could be a backup and play STs and got one at a reasonable price and age

Signing Vanderjagt - would have preferred Adam V or Josh Brown but he is the most accurate kicker in history. Only downside is the KOs and the potential of losing a roster spot to carry a KO specialist.

I give them an incomplete for:

Signing TO - could be a coup and could be a bust. Only time will tell.

Knowing Dallas' luck, they always seem to have an injury at a spot where they lack a little bit of depth at. With that, I see the holes at LOLB and FS. Now, I believe that they will draft a couple of players there, but knowing their luck one of them will get hurt and they will not have done a good enough job of sureing up those spots.

Provided we stay reasonably healthy, the Owens deal was brilliant. Fabini was easily a top 5 Offensive Tackle in 2004 (people forget this) and is probably better suited at right tackle where he's going to play. Ayodele fits a good need, defensive run support up the middle. I like the fact they signed Kosier, but I think they overpaid for him. Hannam was a bit of a need and an upgrade. And then Vanderjagt seems like a great deal compared to what the other lesser kickers were getting. He's not a good kickoff guy, but Dallas has been one of the league's best in kickoff coverage under Parcells. If they can draft a FS, they'll have an even better kickoff unit to counter poor kickoffs with Davis playing Special Teams full time along with Rocky Boiman and Kevin Burnett.

I put them down for a grade of "B", but I'd probably say they were more like a B+
