Grade the Pickens trade

I think this will be a one year rental.
3rd rd draft pick is a costly rental if it goes that way.

If Pickens has a monster year Jerry will definitely resign him because it will validate the trade that HE made happen.

He wants to make the still lingering stench of the Trey Lance trade go away

I voted C+. I’m a little iffy on this one. I am still at work so I want to peruse the forum and get the pulse of the reaction. My initial gut reaction is I’m not happy about it but not overly upset either. To me it depends on 2 things. Is he a locker room cancer and if he is can Schotty still do his culture thing? 2nd question is are they going to resign him and for how much.

If they have a preliminary contract on the table with him then I say A-. F grade if he is one year rental. I just assume save the 3rd rounder and draft a WR next year if he is a rental since we’re not going to compete for a Super Bowl this season with Pickens.

So A grade if they can resign him to a reasonable salary, F grade if he’s just a one year rental. Since those are unknowns at this time I’m going C.

I think the cost depends on what he does this year. Unless they are extended there are several WR hitting FA next year. More in the market drives down the price. But giving up a 3rd is high if you don’t extend. I’d see right now what his agent is thinking.
We can get the 3rd back if he signs with another teams at a certain rate.

It's almost risk free. We'll at least get back a 4th.

For this situation, at this time, full F.

Maybe if he wasn’t a malcontent and/or your head coach didn’t just get done talking about “changing the culture” and “running the ball” it could be different.

Wait until he starts moaning over not getting enough targets in his walk year. Jerry gonna step in and fix that? Of course he thinks so, because HE is the defacto coach and why no one who actually stands on the sidelines can ever command a locker room with him around.

Further proof there’s no real plan. Their own actions contradict what they say….literally within days of each other.
Good luck fielding an entire team of choirboys and having success. All that team captain bullcrap means nothing if you can't play.

You're probably not getting a guy with this much talent in the 3rd. I know it happens, but this player really is pretty darn talented.
Unless they sign him to a multi-year contract, which will be expensive, then you just gave up a 3rd and 5th for one season. If thats the case then we better get a 3rd or 4th round comp pick.

Jones took a swing for a damn good #2 wr. Who is a diva. It ain't uncommon wr are divas. It is uncommon for Jones to take the big swing.
Are you OK with it if its just for one year? Or do you think we will fork over a huge contract for a #2 WR?

Good grief ! lol
People are so judgemental about a player they know little about, and a trade that just happened
today !!!!!!!!!!!!

Man lets wait and see how he does, and how the offense does in Sept.

Some people see it as this just improved the team greatly, I am in that group lol.

I get that, Pickens has BIG potential and can be a weapon for sure…..but is he worth a 3rd and 5th that may only be with us 1 season? If they sign him to an extension and he doesn’t pull that quitting on play stuff he did at Pitt, then yes, it could be with it….its just the what ifs I guess.
I get that

Pickens improves our WR corps significantly for the season ahead, by all rational likelihood. Real fans should look upon this happening with favor, at least, for the time being. Let's count ourselves as lucky and hope for the best to come in 2025. The future looks bright for now. Enjoy it and leave tomorrow for whatever it has to offer. The WR corps just got a big shot in the arm. Just enjoy it as much as you can.

Are you sure?
I can't see the Cowboys signing him to a long-term contract (although Jerry will say he intends to at some point)
I can't see another team giving him a long-term contract (short at best)
I think the likelihood is he is released at the end of nest season and we might get a low round pick for him.

A third is a huge overpay in my book for 1 year rental

Or worse, he starts moaning, and Dak starts forcing the ball to him.

Spot on and we've created an identity. We are, with the addition of Booker and Blue (adding up the middle protection and a varied run game).
2025 now looks like a very capable offense (a big upgrade on upfield WR2 over Cooks, IMO)....and being fair to Dak he's now got weapons. I care little about results in 2025, I dont think we're there yet, HOWEVER, this is either springboard, or if we dont score (even in defeat), its start again time.

4 or 5 days ago Stephen Jones made a statement that we have 3 WRs with the ability to play 2nd WR.

I asked the question why we have to have 3 players if there is only one spot to be filled. That is a waste of respources. To me it looks more like the people who are responsible to find talent have no clue. It reminded me a lot of the situation around 15 years ago where we drafted 3 CBs becaues wr needed to fill one spot. Best thing was: not one was the solution.

Now we trade for a 2nd WR?

Dont misunderstand me, i am not stupid. Stephen has no clue and his is and only is a twaddler. I just want to point you all to the bollocks those two Joneses fo all day and every day.

Seriously the only thing that i really admire is the ability to talk so much crap - i mean to twist that crap they do around to make it look like they have a plan or even a clue. You need this ability in life especially if you are that talentless like those two.

I revised my grade after sitting on it.

B.
If he's focused and mature we got a steal of a WR.
If he's not, the reward/risk will sting over the 3rd, but at least it was after the draft and a 2026 and not before and the 44th or 3rd round pick
