Late round picks are essentially throwing baseballs at a dunk tank - you sometimes hit it but not much.

That's right -- I don't think any credible grading system should use rounds 5-7 as part of the equation.

You aren't a genius for finding late round talent. You are lucky.

That's why I gave it an "A"... four starters...

Three very good ones and one adequate one. If you can get four starters out of a draft on a pretty decent team, then you've had a good draft...

JMO, but the biggest part of assigning draft grades relies on name recognition. If a team, especially a team with high or multiple round 1 picks, etc., drafts highly visable players, big school players...then their draft is perceived to be successful. As we all know, looking at players BEFORE the Draft like Ryan Leaf, Rick Mirer, and Lawrence Phillips (to name a few) would net a team a high draft grade. Of course hindsight is always 20-20.

And Bingo is his Name-0!

Exactly.

Just looking at Dr. Z's grades, the only teams that had as good a draft (in terms of contributing four top starters among their top picks) were New England (Ty Warren, Eugene Wilson, Bethel Johnson and Asante Samuel) and Indianapolis (Dallas Clark, Mike Doss, Robert Mathis and Cato June).

Zuriel Smith - F

Smith, Tucker and Bates were non factors, thus my failing grades. Smith stuck around a little but never did anything of note.

He was with us as a special teams performer for a year and helped win a game for us with a heady play at the end of the game (letting a kick roll out of bounds).

I think that's reason enough to grade him above the garden variety "F".

A "F+" or a "D" perhaps ;).

David.
