I though Heath was one of the better tacklers on our team. His coverage skill are what was lacking.
This is correct. He was one of the better tacklers on the team. He started 8 games and finished 6th in tackles. Barry Church led the team. Extrapolation says that if Heath had started all 16, the safeties would have been 1st and 2nd on the team in tackles. That is pretty damning for the rest of the defense. Even with only 8 starts, Heath made more tackles than any of the Dlinemen, and more than any of the linebackers except Carter and Lee.
You can't teach speed and intelligence. You can teach coverage skills and recognition of formations and routes. Given another off-season, I think Heath will be the guy Matt Johnson was supposed to be.
