No I don’t, and if Jerry had a single thing to do with personnel during that period you’re calling Johnson a total liar.
I’ll also call him a cheater. Refusing to play players for draft picks. He admits it if he did that today he probably would’ve lost draft picks.

Jerry Jones had a lot of influence over the Dallas Cowboys' personnel during Jimmy Johnson's coaching era:

  • Personal relationship
Jones and Johnson were teammates at Arkansas and became close friends in the 1960s. Jones' personal relationship with Johnson gave Johnson a lot of power as a coach.
  • Decision-making
Johnson said that Jones had a say in every aspect of the team, including the players drafted, the color of the uniforms, and the size of the weight room.
Jones and Johnson are both Pro Football Hall of Famers. They coached together at the Cowboys, with Johnson leaving the team in 1993. Jones put Johnson in the Cowboys Ring of

It was Jerry that wanted Troy Aikman. It was Jimmy that wanted Walsh or something like that. I don’t remember the quarterbacks name that he took in the supplement draft. He wasn’t going to play Troy Aikman. In fact, I think it was Jerry that wanted Emmett also
Took you a few to even recall his name. He hedged his bet against Aikman because he knew he needed the QB or he was sunk. He was also the guy that played for Jimmy at UM. One of his few mistakes. This is his own words from his book, not mine.

Are you telling me that it was Jerry Jones that knew about players like Dixon Edwards, Jimmie Jones, Darren Smith, Godfrey Miles, Darren Woodson, Eric Williams, etc?

No…it was the guy who coached in D1 and knew all those guys since high school, not the money man.

If I’m wrong, please explain the disaster drafts when Jerry took over himself and why hasn’t he been able to come close since?

Look, not everyone’s memory is perfect, and I’m not trying to argue with you or whatever, but telling me that Jerry Jones had anything to do with building those teams other than buying the team touches a nerve.

Because Jimmy couldn’t survive without Jerry, and Jerry couldn’t survive without Jimmy. They were a great team.
That’s why Jimmy didn’t survive in Miami
And that’s why Jerry screwing up the Cowboys. It was truly a great team.

Jerry Jones has been trying to prove it was just him and he’ll never be able to do that because it wasn’t, he’s a horrible GM by himself

CowboysZone LOYAL Fan
My grandson officially became a Cowboys fan in 2011, Jason Garrett's first season as HC. My grandson was 10 at the time. I don't know how it happened, really. For as long as he could remember at that age, he had witnessed my eventual misery every season. LOL, perhaps it was his way of helping out his poor, sad, grandpa.

His favorite Cowboy of all time is Demarco Murray.

He endured three consecutive seasons of 8-8 so you can understand that, when the Cowboys went 12-4 in 2014, he was ecstatic. The wildcard victory in the playoff against the Lions that postseason was like a SB to him.

Sadly, it still is.

My grandson is 24 now. The day after the Cowboys lost to the Bengals in that horrific fashion, he asked me this question, as if I don't volunteer the information every time we sit down to watch a game together.

Grandpa, what was it like?

What was it like when the Cowboys were fighting for a SB every year? What was it like to expect your team to, not only reach the playoffs, but be one of the last, if not the last, team standing?

What was it like to win a SB?

I knew he wasn't looking for stats or dates, or particular player stories. He already knew them by heart, whether he actually wanted to or not. He was so frustrated with the present circumstances that he just wanted to imagine my experiences at his age.

However, here's the thing....

I never properly respected the accomplishments of those teams during that period of time...,during that era. I took it for granted most of the time.

I mean, I enjoyed them to be sure. I enjoyed watching them, I enjoyed reading about them, I enjoyed bragging about them. I wanted to be one of them.

I had never been on that "other side" of the coin. Ironically, I became a Cowboys fan because I felt sorry for them after they went 5-4 in 1970 and lost to both the Vikings and Cardinals by over a 30 point margin. My luck, they went undefeated after that but lost SB 5. Of course we all know the rest.

I had been a fan for 16 years before I experienced a Cowboys losing season or even a tie season.

During the mid-80's, I felt that it was expected that the Cowboys should have a period of not being a significant team. After all, I certainly got my share of championships and championship games as well as the share of many other fan's teams. It would only be fair for me to endure a period of losing. Big of me, right?

And so I was forced to endure.......5 losing seasons before the Cowboys won 3 of the next 4 Super bowls. Poor me!

Obviously, looking back, I can see that I felt somewhat entitled. Can you really blame me?

During my first 36 seasons as a Dallas Cowboys fan, I experienced 32 postseasons, 45 playoff games, 22 division titles, 14 conference championship games, 8 Super Bowls and 5 NFL championships.

Rather than try to explain what it felt like, I gave him some advice. Enjoy the Now. Appreciate the team, even when they lose. Understand that the more they lose, the more exciting it will be if they build something special.

I can tell you that if the Lions win the Super Bowl, the Motor City party will be on. The parade will be like a Roman triumph. The procession will include Mahomes, Allen or Jackson wheeling by in a wooden cage. Some guy will be sitting on the main float behind Campbell, whispering in his ear, "You are only a man." The city will turn into a giant coliseum.

And if the Cowboys ever become a powerhouse once again? Savor it. Appreciate it. Thoroughly enjoy the moment because that is all it ever is.
Good for you to stay positive with your grandson. To easy to be negative in down years, he'll make up his own mind and hopefully, he'll get a taste of some great years like we did. Anticipation, loyalty and just enjoying the game is a great way to be a fan, in my opinion. It'd be cool for you to post one day that you and him celebrated a Cowboy SB! Salud!

Great stuff.

They were once a pure act of class on and off the field. That’s way over and doubtful to ever get even close to returning.

I just realize something. We were worse since we put Jimmy in the ring of honor. Jerry is cursed. I pulled that off the Internet those weren’t my thoughts.

I don’t know where you got that idea from. I’m just telling you reality fact I’m not making this up. It’s all over the Internet. Just look it up. One wasn’t making it without the other. I remember right after the strike season. I remember them firing Landry like it was yesterday.

I copied this off the Internet. You can laugh, but that’s what it’s written
I was actually at the Giants football game with Phil Simmons. Jimmy and Jerry were walking across the field and I had a chance to talk to them. They were best friends at that time. I left early in the fourth quarter in Sims almost came back and beat us.

That’s the way that trade was structured. He admitted he always wanted the picks.

Are you saying that he should have played Jesse Solomon, Alex Stewart and Darin Nelson more often and not taken the picks attached to them that became vital parts of the depth on those championship teams, they would have gone 2-14 instead of 1-15 and have been better off?

I’ll give you time to look it up. Sadly, I remember it vividly.

Those players were so upset that Jimmy didn’t play them. And no matter how good they were, he was refusing to play them. They were better than what we had. But he wasn’t going to play them because he wanted the draft picks. That’s cheating.
it just makes it a tainted Super Bowl in my opinion. It’s like tanking. I don’t believe in that either.

Well, he’s not my hero. Landry was. you think he’s a football god , like you said we’re done here. People make excuses for winning, lol I wanna win because we’re good. Not because we took something that we shouldn’t have had.

Well, I’ll leave it at this….if it was “cheating” and Jerry was so involved, maybe he ought to consider doing it again, because he can’t even sniff a Super Bowl…not one he brings his team to anyway. He has no issue doing the same to his wife. What a guy.
