My wife, daughter, her boyfriend and my grandson all went to see the Tigers-Mets spring training game today in Lakeland. A young girl that worked for the Tigers came into our section in the 4th inning looking for a youngster to sing Take Me Out to the Ballgame during the 7th inning stretch. She asked him if he knew the song and I told her he has know it since he was 2 yrs old. I tought it to him.
I asked him if he was nervous and he kept telling me he had butterflies in his stomach. Everyone in our section was building him up but still I thought in the end he would be too timid to do it. We walked over to the 1st base dugout area during the top of the 7th. My daughters boyfriend kept trying to get him to holler Go Mets when he finished but his Mom told him he better not.
When it came time for him to sing, he sang in front of everybody with no fear. NEver missed a word. When it came the time to sing, Root, Root Root for the home team, A guy close to him sang Root root root for the Tigers, and Blane looked at him like he was crazy. He never heard it that way and for a 2nd was confused but gathered himself and finished it.
Here is a picture of him at the Three Strikes You're Out. I was sooo proud of him. I told him we were going to get a bus and go on tour.
