Great film breakdown of Mazi. By an Eagles fan no less!

We're gonna need you to be a little more hyperbolic about this.
Feel free to respond to the non-hyperbolic part of my post.

The guys basically said we should make our 1-Tech into a 3-tech

You ok with that?

This breakdown is great.

The fact that it’s not seeing more action is, unfortunately, a reflection of our board.

I know the meme at CZ is to crap on everything the team does, but this is worth a watch!

Why does everyone says he needs to pass rush. That’s not his job. Stuff the run and push the pocket back a bit to keep QB from stepping up. That’s his job and I hope he can do it well.
If he only gets 1-2 sacks a year, but the rush YPG drops from 129.3 to 100.3 and he keeps QB's from stepping up in the pocket, HE'S DONE HIS JOB PERFECTLY!!!!!

I don't want to say Mazi's going to be 'better' than Jalen, but he can be more effective. I don't want to say better since they have different kind of roles. Jalen is more of a pass rusher, while Mazi is more of a run stopper.

I'm very happy with our pick because I'm very wary of drafting guys who have questionable work ethic or have a reputation for being uncoachable. These guys can have all the talent in the world, but when they are playing against the best of the best, this kind of stuff can really hold them back. Jadaveon Clowney looked amazing out of college, but he never really made the impact on the league that was expected.

Tell me you don’t know anything about football without telling me you don’t know anything about football.

3-Tech tackles are a dime a dozen. Why would you try to strip this athletic freak of what makes him freakish?

Maybe the Chiefs should ask Mahomes to out on 30 lbs and move to tight end.
Uh, so are 1T

But penetrating DTs who can provide a passrush are not. So if you can get him in better shape to do that, it's the smart move.

He’s in tremendous shape. He was number one on this years freak list. Have you watched him?

He’s not fat. If you were to cut 20 lbs, you’d be cutting muscle.

Cool I didn't say he's fat and/or out of shape, but it's not like he's shredded. At that weight, losing 15 lbs is easy, it's just babyfat and water weight.

This is the physique of someone who can drop 15 and not lose muscle.

I agree Kwyn, the guy's a beast in that film. He was a beast in college, and he's still a beast. whatever weight he was when beasting in that film is fine with me.

Not at all, but he in fact did not directly state that. He just pointed out that Mazi will be expected to work on his passing down skills in order to be a 3 down DT, and advocated maybe dropping a few pounds to help. I don't agree that he needs to drop weight in order to be effective. I also don't think he's completely clueless to the game of football for sharing that opinion, man.

Yeah, he needs to get in tiptop shape. His actual weight isn't all that relevant.

Did you notice on the tape that he seems to always react a second LATE compared to all the other linemen? It seems there is a pretty big delay from the snap to him moving.

He was their one run stopper and it was emphasized that was his role as the NT, so in a two gap scheme he's reading and then reacting. Once he's primarily got only one gap responsibility he should be able to be more aggressive at the snap.

It's the same exact evaluation as when Micah comes out.

Micah was a terrible pick if they just used him as a standard off-ball LB, the ceiling was if he could be a passrusher.
Mazi is less terrible, but certainly not great value, if he's just a 1T run defender and doesn't develop into a passrusher at DT.

I would be surprised if the Cowboys don't ask him to lose 15 lbs and get as quick as he can. He can still be just as effective against the run at 310.
His weight has fluctuated a lot in college
The key is find the best playing weight for him and keep him there. I think around 310 sounds about right. He will also get stronger and he’s already strong and the weight will be more muscle less fat after an off season
If he can develop into a guy who impacts the passing game he’s a great pick. And that’s not necessarily huge sack numbers, but pressures, pushing the pocket and making it hard for a QB to step up in the pocket
I wanted a guard to build a string dline but if he can become an impactful player in the passing game I will be the first to admit it was the right pick

I couldn’t get into video posted but looked at others on YouTube and seen that. He’s very quick but slow to react to snap. That could be very fixable though. If you zoom in on his film breakdown he doesn’t appear to be looking at the ball but the player in front of him and reacting to his move. If that’s actually the case that’s an easy fix. And Quinn will improve his technique which appears pretty sound already
For a big man he’s got quick hands and feet and is very athletic.
