Not at all, but he in fact did not directly state that. He just pointed out that Mazi will be expected to work on his passing down skills in order to be a 3 down DT, and advocated maybe dropping a few pounds to help. I don't agree that he needs to drop weight in order to be effective. I also don't think he's completely clueless to the game of football for sharing that opinion, man.
Same here. He's a beast as is. He seems to have the right combination of size, weight and muscle already.

I believe this is the one piece that makes our entire defense even better. If he buys into what Quinn teaches him then they sky is the limit for this young man. It's going to be exciting to watch.

Life caught up with me about 20 years ago so I don't put the work into the draft anymore. I would like to thank @AsthmaField , @xwalker , @Risen Star (don't be fooled by his sarcasm, he knows the game), @CalPolyTechnique , @Floatyworm (even if we never did get John Abraham) @gmb1 , and countless others who's names aren't popping into my feeble mind right now for the work they put into the draft.

I look forward to the draft board as soon as our season ends. All these folks make it so much easier for me to catch up on prospects without a lot of time invested. Your work is really appreciated by me and while all will never agree, all can make a compelling argument on a certain player. Big ups to all the draft guys, it's the best part or CZ in my opinion,

They want guys in their best condition and will assign their expected weight and to be a 3 down player they are going to expect him to be at most 6-3 325. (They did this with Bohanna) He was 323 at the combine and told Hailey Sutton that he was currently 330. There was a lot of media saying he was 335 so my guess that is what he weighed his last season with Michigan.

YUP, that was a pretty amazing breakdown by a stinkin' Eagles fan.
too me hes slightly larger version of OSA , that has to be good thing. them next to each other i ses good things happening.. Hank will help the transition, but this is better draft then folks want to admit.

Tell me you don’t know anything about football without telling me you don’t know anything about football.

3-Tech tackles are a dime a dozen. Why would you try to strip this athletic freak of what makes him freakish?

Maybe the Chiefs should ask Mahomes to out on 30 lbs and move to tight end.
you saved me from have to type the same response. look at this poster posts all negative all trying to be that guy with shock value statements, hes the skip Bayless of the zone..:muttley:

I knew who Micah was and could be the minute he was drafted, covid year off had him slip through the cracks because if he would have played his final season, hes top 5 pick..a bad pick OMG..cluelss :)

What? 3-tech tackles are absolutely not a dime a dozen

He was their one run stopper and it was emphasized that was his role as the NT, so in a two gap scheme he's reading and then reacting. Once he's primarily got only one gap responsibility he should be able to be more aggressive at the snap.
No he’s slow off the ball. Scheme has nothing to do with it. Even in read and react D’s you need to get off the ball. If not the o-line gets into your body.

Strengths
  • Possesses rare combination of size and athleticism.
  • Bendy and stout in his lower half.
  • Power to punch and lift blocker under his pads.
  • Plays with lively feet and short-area quickness.
  • Able to slide, swim and seize the gap.
  • Yanks and pulls guards off-balance from any direction.
  • Foot quickness to be part of a twisting rush unit.
Weaknesses
  • Hasn’t made many plays behind the line of scrimmage.
  • Motor runs out of gas when tempo heats up.
  • Slow reaction to movement gets him sealed.
  • Struggled against Iowa’s zone scheme attack.
  • Surprising lack of anchor consistency against double teams.
  • Unlikely to see many passing downs as a pro.

Does Mazi have flaws? Yes. Will he makes us the ‘85 Bears? Probably not. But he is the best DT we have acquired in years, and should help tremendously.

My concern with this team now is mostly health and kicker.

To be fair, he made this a couple days before the draft. There were Cowboy fans on YouTube who also wanted Mazi if I’m not mistaken.
Yea I think I saw ****NOT-AN-OFFICIAL-SOURCE*** or one of those dudes on the Mazi train. I just like laughing at the people who hated Mazi (same ones who didn't like Tyler Smith). Bout time for some to stop this internet scout thing

In about half these plays, he is lined up as DT but not NT. He shows some quickness when he is away from NT. NT is his best spot for us. Simply I see some versatility that I didn’t expect.

It's the same exact evaluation as when Micah comes out.

Micah was a terrible pick if they just used him as a standard off-ball LB, the ceiling was if he could be a passrusher.
Mazi is less terrible, but certainly not great value, if he's just a 1T run defender and doesn't develop into a passrusher at DT.

I would be surprised if the Cowboys don't ask him to lose 15 lbs and get as quick as he can. He can still be just as effective against the run at 310.
Uh, maybe you missed the memo but Marrinelli “ain’t in charge of nothing no more”!
