For the first time since 2019, the Cowboys won their opening game and did it with authority. Couldn’t ask for a better start as all three phases of the team, especially defense and STs were sharp. In fact, their dominance reminded me of some of those 70s and 90s teams. The defense so smothered the giants offense, it felt as if the game was over at end of first quarter.

Last night was a great start to what amounts to a marathon. Meaning last night’s statement game was 1/17th of the season. We won’t look this great every week but it was still certainly a wow start.

Some thoughts about last night:
  • The giants looked intimidated after the first quarter. That happens rarely in the NFL and speaks to how well prepared the Cowboys were and how dominant our talent can be.
  • The offense wasn’t great, but they didn’t need to be.
  • Are we that dominant or are the giants that bad? Or both?
  • The mark of a great team starts with consistency.
  • We won’t be that dominant every week.
It was a great start to a long season. A lot of football left to be played.
Remember- it’s a marathon.

This is the type of butt whooping that is going to leave the Giants worried as opposed to determined for game 2. Absolute dominance.
The giants response to that kind of humiliating beat down to start the season will define them the rest of the season. Getting shut out in the NFL is rare. And if they come out the next 2-3 weeks that anemic they are in serious trouble, We will see.

I agree to stay on the let's see side, are we really that good, or are they that bad right now. We have to play them again, I know they'll be better by then

We weren't really tested, we will be tested next week so let's see

I don't doubt that they will regroup but when they come to Dallas I don't see how they cannot have doubts. We handed them one of the worst beat downs this millennium.

Not going to lie…I’m usually level poster here without getting too hyped or low on anyone/any team. But last night had me seeing SB with that D. Honestly you can sweep and QB live/hate; can Pollard be healthy etc out the door when you have a dominate D and an O that just needs to take advantage of the situation.

Very entertaining opening night. It was an avalanche for NY. Enjoy the victory.

And we can take special interest in tonight’s game.

Which brings up, who do we root for tonight? That might make a good thread.

Was thinking about the marathon idea. The nfl season is really three seasons that may or may not resemble each other. Winning early is better than losing but hopefully we can carry momentum into the playoffs as well.

Drafts mean a lot. Last year the Giants drafted Evan Neal at pick number 7. Cowboys got Tyler Smith at pick 24. It's weird how this stuff works. If the Giants called the Cowboys and wanted to do a straight up trade for the two, Jerry would laugh and hang up the phone.

I wonder how the game would have turned out had the Giants not committed that false start penalty on their first drive, or if the FG had no been blocked and returned for a TD. The Giants offensive game plan on their first drive was successful, but then they changed which allowed the Cowboys' pass rush to dictate the game after that.

I think this was just one of those games where the winning team is not as good as they looked and the losers are not as bad as they looked. We need to try to keep things in perspective. The performance of the Giants OL was not a good sign for them though. Had the refs called some of the holding going on it might have been an even worse night for them.

NY didn't belong taking the field.

The offense looked suspect, but it's going to take three more games to really see what this offense will look like. With that defense, the offense only needs to not turn the ball over.

The defense was pretty amazing to see, I've never witnessed a Cowboys defense play like this. That was fun to see.
Offense, not sure we saw enough to fully judge yet, although we saw a little flash of what's to come.

It was clear eart on that their only option was for Jones to run on broken plays. The pass rush was great even when Micah sat out. I guess that’s the plan to keep him rested.

I’m curious about Micah’s snap count vs last year’s avg. I like it. I think.

I thought of this too. What if the Giants had made it 7-0? But I mark that off as early game jitters. The Cowboys were too dominant for it to not materialize later on. It may not have been 40-0, but maybe 27-10.

I think back to the 1986 playoff game the Giants had against the 49ers. When Jerry Rice caught a slant and had no one between him and the endzone. The ball just came out of his hands and the Giants recovered. People always asked, what if the 49ers had that 7-0 lead? Game ended 48-3 I believe, in favor of the Giants.

Go back further to when the Bears beat the skins 72-0. At the end of the game the Skins coach was asked, do you think the outcome would have been different if your WR didn't drop that touchdown pass that would have given you the 7-0 lead? He said yeah, we would have lost 72-7. LOL!!!

I think for the Giants AND us, we need to look at last night as a preseason game...and move on.

In the preseason opener you NEVER know what u can get. That was last night.

The same week 1 zanniness that caused the Bengals to nearly get shut out, and the Chiefs to lose to the Lions, and for the Eagles to look like a bottom 5 team, just made last night's game spin out of control.

I hope the players put it out of their head, just like they would if they played a great preseason game, and move on like next week will be Game 1, because in many ways it will be.

Take the W, but forget it. Coaches can't do this for them....this has to come from the players themselves and player leadership

well according to all the media pundits that the NYG were poiised to move up to second or first place in the NFC east. they literally were being heralded an appoved team and would be in the payoffs and the Boys would be pushed out BY THEM!! AT home they were going to break the cycle of losing to the cowboys what 10-2 the last 12?

and 75% of the media and fan base pick the giants to win this game. so how can a playoff team from last year and allegedly improved in the offseason be that bad?. . i do love how these narratives changed because the cowboys blew them out?
and yet our fan base was drooling over the 49ers blowing out the steelers who are by far the inferior team to the giants and what they have on their roster.

go read all those early game threads and they were drooling over the 49ers here.. really because we just blew out a playoff team, on the road at home in bad weather... and yet the 49ers are getting credit. as being the best team in the NFL this year.. so this stuff annoys me and now we'r....not give enough credit to the cowboys.

stephen A smith and a lot of that anti ESPN crew i can't wait for all the excuses to downplay the cowboys win with excuses on why the giants sucked.... :espn::popcorn:
