For the first time since 2019, the Cowboys won their opening game and did it with authority. Couldn’t ask for a better start as all three phases of the team, especially defense and STs were sharp. In fact, their dominance reminded me of some of those 70s and 90s teams. The defense so smothered the giants offense, it felt as if the game was over at end of first quarter.

Last night was a great start to what amounts to a marathon. Meaning last night’s statement game was 1/17th of the season. We won’t look this great every week but it was still certainly a wow start.

Some thoughts about last night:
  • The giants looked intimidated after the first quarter. That happens rarely in the NFL and speaks to how well prepared the Cowboys were and how dominant our talent can be.
  • The offense wasn’t great, but they didn’t need to be.
  • Are we that dominant or are the giants that bad? Or both?
  • The mark of a great team starts with consistency.
  • We won’t be that dominant every week.
It was a great start to a long season. A lot of football left to be played.
Remember- it’s a marathon.
Last time Dallas shut out the NY Giants on opening day was 1995. 35-0 win.

That was the last SB win. I remember the headlines the next day was, They're back!

I can't help but think of those Giants teams that started the season poorly, but ended up putting it together mid-season and getting to the playoffs. Not saying this team will do that, but I'm not going to count them out after one really horrible game in the rain.

Right. One game does not define a season. It can set the tone though for sure.

Old timer & seasoned fans understand this. Let's hope they keep improving in the areas that need it & continue to play great defense. But I sure loved seeing that smash-mouth, hard charging, tough playing that Quinn & his type players are ushering in! Reminds me of the good ole days watching the 'boys play. I'm here for the ride & excited about the possibilities!

The defense looks good, the offense will get better. That's the first real game with the offensive players.

That was a tone setting game. It’s way too early to crown this team after one game. But that kind of dominance over a division rival sends a tone message that says, “We ain’t messin‘ around“. It’s one game but message delivered.

well according to all the media pundits that the NYG were poiised to move up to second or first place in the NFC east. they literally were being heralded an appoved team and would be in the payoffs and the Boys would be pushed out BY THEM!! AT home they were going to break the cycle of losing to the cowboys what 10-2 the last 12?

and 75% of the media and fan base pick the giants to win this game. so how can a playoff team from last year and allegedly improved in the offseason be that bad?. . i do love how these narratives changed because the cowboys blew them out?
and yet our fan base was drooling over the 49ers blowing out the steelers who are by far the inferior team to the giants and what they have on their roster.

go read all those early game threads and they were drooling over the 49ers here.. really because we just blew out a playoff team, on the road at home in bad weather... and yet the 49ers are getting credit. as being the best team in the NFL this year.. so this stuff annoys me and now we'r....not give enough credit to the cowboys.

stephen A smith and a lot of that anti ESPN crew i can't wait for all the excuses to downplay the cowboys win with excuses on why the giants sucked.... :espn::popcorn:
Blue, why should any of us care what the media says or even if they “respect” us? The only respect I care anything about happens by winning playoff games. What any sports writer or talking head thinks about the Cowboys is unimportant in my view.

What I'm telling you is the mood of the media and the fans in New York everything the feedback before game one was that New York was poised to beat us and to take the next step in the east and what I'm telling you is I don't care but I'm telling you that's the problem with the media talking all off season last year and in here you don't remember a lot of you guys said we had an historically bad offseason and then go to the second round of the playoffs they were talking about after Prescott hurt his hand we should start tanking that's what I hate and I'm just bringing to the attention of everybody that some of the teams that were being hyped up laid an egg yesterday..
I didn't say that I cared what they said I'm saying you that is what the tenor of what was being talked about before the game all day long all the pregame shows people are picking the giants against us.. I actually like it I didn't say it bothered me I'm just telling you what I heard and then look what happened on the field This is why you can't listen to anyones feedback over rankings and scores and analytics and what a record is gonna be..

Here's the next test oh last season Hard Knocks the New York Jets are being lauded as a loaded team a dream team paper champions already so I can't wait to see that game tonight because we see them next week so yeah that's the last team on the schedule this week there have been hyped all off season.. The fact is they're playing a another good team so we'll see how this works out very interesting game..

“We won’t be that dominant every week”

That’s correct. During the playoffs the Cowboys offense will have to control the clock and put up more points.

Curious to see how the Jets do tonight, after watching hard knocks and hoping we can crush rodgers for once.

Great job by the Cowboys D! My fantasy league gave me crap for being the first to nab a defense and it's the Cowboys. They got me 40+ points yesterday.

Also I wanna add, the Giants should have played the Jets tonight for a Monday night 9/11 game. But I sure can't complain too much now

Yea I can't say the Giants are bad. That first drive had me worried. And then the blocked fg touchdown and the D started playing like it was 1992

A blowout like that is an anomily, but all 3 phases looked solid. I just hope the Giants Dline is actually every bit as good as I expected them to be.

Yeah both of those are being overrated because of who they played I mean the 49ers getting way too much credit for dominating the Steelers but the Cowboys somehow all of a sudden the second round playoff team from last year in the giants they're just suck the only reason the Cowboys blew them out is because they suck I mean that's the new narrative I don't care how tough the 49ers and Eagles are gonna be we beat the Eagles last year we've only lost to the 49ers by one score or less they do not dominate us that it will be a game and this time it might be a different game.. So I don't even know what you're trying to tell me I watched the games too Philadelphia struggled with New England and New England basically gave them the game I mean this not stepping out of bounds all the little things in that game New England shot themselves in the foot at the end of that game literally and figuratively.. But we can thank Ezekiel Elliott for that fumble I mean I think he did it on purpose does it help the Eagles you know to get back at the Cowboys lol he's like I got you that's what you get for cutting me

I understand. But again- just my opinion- why should we care about “hype” for any team one game into a season? If the sports media wants to crown someone in Sept, fine. The real trophy is handed out in February and that’s where the real respect lies.

My mantra has been for years: “Respect is earned in the playoffs.”
