A blowout like that is an anomily, but all 3 phases looked solid. I just hope the Giants Dline is actually every bit as good as I expected them to be.
I try not to take too much from one game - win or lose. The game last night was a great flash of what the Cowboys can be. But we have a lot of football to play and a lot of unknown adversity to face that will show what we’re really made of. It takes all 17 to show what you are.

I wonder how the game would have turned out had the Giants not committed that false start penalty on their first drive, or if the FG had no been blocked and returned for a TD. The Giants offensive game plan on their first drive was successful, but then they changed which allowed the Cowboys' pass rush to dictate the game after that.

I think this was just one of those games where the winning team is not as good as they looked and the losers are not as bad as they looked. We need to try to keep things in perspective. The performance of the Giants OL was not a good sign for them though. Had the refs called some of the holding going on it might have been an even worse night for them.
How much of it was Their OL playing poorly vs our DL playing so well it made them look poor?

We will see in first 5 weeks how much that is, but based off recent history with this D, I'll lean towards the latter.

For the first time since 2019, the Cowboys won their opening game and did it with authority. Couldn’t ask for a better start as all three phases of the team, especially defense and STs were sharp. In fact, their dominance reminded me of some of those 70s and 90s teams. The defense so smothered the giants offense, it felt as if the game was over at end of first quarter.

Last night was a great start to what amounts to a marathon. Meaning last night’s statement game was 1/17th of the season. We won’t look this great every week but it was still certainly a wow start.

Some thoughts about last night:
  • The giants looked intimidated after the first quarter. That happens rarely in the NFL and speaks to how well prepared the Cowboys were and how dominant our talent can be.
  • The offense wasn’t great, but they didn’t need to be.
  • Are we that dominant or are the giants that bad? Or both?
  • The mark of a great team starts with consistency.
  • We won’t be that dominant every week.
It was a great start to a long season. A lot of football left to be played.
Remember- it’s a marathon.
It reminded me of those early 90s Jimmy teams also, Im too young to remember those 70s teams. The way they just flat out dominate you in every aspect of the game. Beat you in every way possible on a football field. Like a steamroller.
Even then though I don't remember that many shutouts even from those teams. Usually the other teams at least managed a FG or a garbage TD after the game was long over against 2nd stringers, but the Giants just crumbled after that blocked FG ended up being 6 pts the other way. That was unreal.
I am not going to judge Dak and the passing game since the weather was so awful. That was the only area that was not great. Wow, what a way to start the season against a division rival. LOVED IT !!!!!!

I understand. But again- just my opinion- why should we care about “hype” for any team one game into a season? If the sports media wants to crown someone in Sept, fine. The real trophy is handed out in February and that’s where the real respect lies.

My mantra has been for years: “Respect is earned in the playoffs.”
yeah but it takes a really strong consistent team in the regular season in order to make it into the playoffs... All we can do is hope for a strong regular season and that we battle attrition and injuries and have guys that are fresh and strong when we meet up against some of the better teams in the playoffs.

By the way let me be clear about this too here's another opinion if respect is earned in the playoffs do you really believe that the teams that the Eagles be in the playoffs to get to a Super Bowl to only lose but then say oh look how we played and they bragged about that run that was the weakest softest Super Bowl run I've ever seen... You're gonna give them respect for beating that giants team and beating a undermanned with no quarterback team in the Niners and then lose in the Super bowl that's respect because they got to the Super bowl??
In my opinion context is king how did you get to the Super bowl who did you face in the playoffs trust me I believe that the Cowboys switched places with the Eagles we would have went to the Super bowl because we know we could beat the giants we know how close we come to beat the 49ers you take Brock Purdy off the field we win that game and for sure we give Patrick mahomes a very good game as well... That's context we've had some bad luck and we've met some strong teams in the playoffs and we've lost by one score or less..
