OK, OK, OK (use your best Pesci voice), the other thread was a mistake because it was too broad and some interpreted band as that and didn't want to include artists like Bruce and Prince.

And Rock is a wide ranging term in this instance and does incorporate country leaning bands like the Eagles, the test? Was this artist/band played on Rock radio?

To best put an artist/band in a decade, when were they at their peak period? Doesn't mean you can't use the same artist/band for more than one decade because some have expansive careers and staying power. And, oh yes, there will be other decades to debate.

I started with the 70's because that's really when rock became more defined and Album Oriented Rock stations began to emerge on the FM dial. Prior to that it was much more Top 40 and more Rock & Roll than Rock and the two are not the same. Rock & Roll evolved into Country.

If the staff wants to dump that other thread I started, perfectly fine with me.

Man,it's a subjective question C-C,, ,and as you full well know the rocket shot launch some of these bands were onto astronomical trajectories, some bands couldn't handle it & overindulged/overdosed key instrumental members, petty jealousies, naive signings with record labels, blah, blah& blah,,,having stated that:
Grand Funk Railroado_O

Oh yeah. The Doors. :muttley:
Nah. I like some of their stuff, but most of it just sounds like Morrison was making up the lyrics as he went along. Some people say he was a genius, but I think they just say that because they couldn't understand him.

Did someone say Greatest American Hero?
That, my dear friends, would be William Katt.
