Greatest Football names ever (Cowboys and Leaguewide)

It sort of requires the nickname to go along with it, but Dick "Night Train" Lane is a pretty fierce football name and fit the player perfectly.

Oh and Deacon Jones. He sounds mean and he was.

Classic. :laugh2:

Dick Butkus
Ray Nitschke
(all middle linebackers should have names like this - too bad Rolf Bernershke was a kicker)

Chuck Bednarik
Deacon Jones
Bart Starr
Roman Gabriel
Sterling Sharp

Nicknames (only those that were used as the name the player went by)
Red Grange (I assume "Red" is a nickname)
Bronco Nagurski
Rocket Ismael

Other Nicknames
Broadway Joe Namath
Dick "Night Train" Lane
Elroy "Crazy Legs" Hirsch
"Bullet" Bob Hayes

Sorry, Manster, Too Tall, Hollywood and Captain America don't make the list.

Obert "Butch" Logan was the last player in the NFL to be allowed to wear the number 0.

Little O was a tremendously fierce player even though he was only 5'10" and weighed about 160 pounds.

When the Packers' starting WR's were named Walker and Driver, that killed me.

One of the best ever: Webster Slaughter

He was a WR with the Cleveland Browns in the 1980's.
