I agree Hos... I would like us to see if we can slow the pace of the game somewhat

3-wide is their base, Hos.

They do go 4+ VERY frequently, though. 303 of Favre's 425 attempts come from 3+ WR formations. Favre has 17 TDs and 6 INTs from 3+ receiver sets, and is completing close to 70% of his passes everywhere. He's been amazing. There is no room for a FB on this team.

I believe they are running an Arrow Offense. This is basically Correll's old offense. To stop them, you have to shorten the game with long physical drives. You can't try and outscore them. Cover2 is what you have to do because, like many have said, you can't cover acrosss the board because we don't have enough talent. I also agree that 1st and 2nd down are key but really, you have to play them from the 20 in. Between the 20s, there going to move the ball. The weakness of this offense is that they run long developing routes. It takes time for them to clear. We gotta get to Favre before the clear. Simple as that IMO.

This is their base offense really. Even if they start the game with a RB in there, they're going to throw the football.

I think you'll see us in a Nickel or Dime all the time next week except when they have a RB in the huddle. Then you may see some base 3-4.

Burnett seems to be getting more PT than Akin on Nickel situations this year. You have to wonder if James will also be out of the game more this week.

It's a great time for Henry to be coming back healthy because we are going to need all of our DBs to play tight coverage.

To beat the Packers you have to get in Favre's face. Pressure him into mistakes. He's not making many this year. The pass rush is going to need to be in his business.

They are not going to beat us running the ball. Aerial circus time. Gunfight at the Texas Stadium Corral. It would be good to get Crayton back for next week and Glenn would especially be a blessing if he can return. We can pound on them with our size. We're going to need to. A key to this game may be Barber in the 4th quarter. Without a doubt the Corners will be. They can't have a bad game.
We will play a lot of nickel with RW and Burnett at LB
Ellis, Spencer, Ratliff/Canty, Ware along the DL
And TNew, Henry, Reeves, Watkins/Davis, Hamlin in the secondary.

If we go dime we will remove RW and put in another pure coverage guy.

Reeves and Nate Jones will have to play the game of their lives because you best believe the game plan going in for GB will be to target these two in man-to-man situations. They're going to give up some plays, but they have to make their share of plays as well. Reeves particularly will need to step up because GB's 3rd WR, whether it's Jones or Jennings, is a good player.

The DLine also needs to stay in Favre's face and put him on the ground a few times

I say we spread out the Pack's defense a little bit. Go 5 wide ourselves on the opening series and see how they react. Maybe motion Jones out of the backfield. Austin looked good yesterday, think he could get some YAC on their 4th string DB especially if Woodson is out......

But I think this defense's achilles heel are these spead em out, 3, 4, or 5 wide sets. NE killed us with the slot recievers.

Yeah, New England did kill us with their slot receiver. However, Henry was out of that game. That made Newman take his spot outside at corner and we had to bring in Nate Jones on their slot guy... usually Welker.

Now, we can put Henry outside at corner and bring Newman to cove the slot guy. That, my friend, is a horse of another color.

Newman on Welker would have been a whole different story than Nate Jones, who is at best our 4th corner. Welker (and so the Patriots) would have found the going a lot tougher with Newman there in the slot.

I do agree that it is scary looking at Green Bay and their spread offense. I feel pretty good though with the package we've been playing with Burnett and Henry in for Ayodele and Williams. Much better coverage that what we've been doing with our base... but those guys can still stuff the run.

Real nice job by Phillips, IMO.

You know Jason Garrett will find a way to exploit their defense as he always does... I believe Dallas will get to Favre enough to make some plays on the ball.

I think we also do a lot of no huddle as well. Green Bay rotates a LOT of defensive linemen based on specific rushing situations. I think they have been rotating 8-10 different linemen. Get the mismatch and start going no huddle like Indy does. Just enough to to not let them substitute but slow enough to keep their offense on the sideline.

Good analysis Max.

The challenge I have is that we do not play a cover two where the corners lined up on the receivers, usually using outside technique and redirect the wide receivers into the next zone. Instead we play-off and seem to give up the short passes without much debate.

Watch for Dallas to use a lot of zone blitzes against 5 wide. Lineman will be dropping into coverage and defensive backs will be rushing. The extra half second it takes the QB to read the coverage is another half second to get pressure. Plus, there's nobody in the backfield to pick up those far edge rushers.

That's a good game plan imo. Rush the DB's with more speed and that will present blocking problems for the line of Green Bay. Someone would get through to pressure Favre more consistently.

And when Favre gets pressured, he makes more mistakes.

Packers have adjusted to whatever the defense is doing. If you sit in a cover two and play inside position, the Packers will throw it downfield. If you sit in a deep prevent, they dink and dunk themselves down the field.

Whoever said that they receiver routes take a long time to develop havent watched many Packer games. FAvre gets rid of the ball on mostly three step drops. You will not get to him on those plays. If they do start going long it is because of the defense being played and then the rush is not the problem.

You may get to him early in the game but if anything, McCarthy and Co have been excellent in seeing what the defense is trying to do and adjust accordingly. Yesterday, the Packers were going to run the ball as their game plan, but Detroit decided to attack the running game early with 8 in the box. Packers adjusted and Brett threw for 400 yards.

People think this will be a defensive battle. I think it will be a shootout. 900 yards of offense and over 70 pts scored. Of course I think the Packers will win 37 to 34. Whitten will have a career day. So will Greg Jennings.... gonna be fun....

there is always the chance that the Cowboys will revert back to their never called pick plays and Erik Williams chop blocking and clipping like they did in the 90s in order to get an advantage. :D then all bets are off.....
