wow. just wow. i really didn't see this coming. i also don't entirely believe he should be gone. i mean, he has had two national championship offenses one being just last year. you don't lose the ability to call plays that quickly. plus the texas WR/QB connection didn't do him any favors this season.

i understand the move but i reserve judgment till i see who we bring in

I agree. I knew something had to happen. I was actually hoping the O line/WR position coaches to be fired after the ou game! Although Davis is responsible for some of the offensive packages. I questioned the packages along with the playcalling. Johnson running sweep tosses? Malcom Williams running streaks? Goodwin seemed to only running WR screens! The O Line's run blocking was horrible! The defense shouldn't go unpunished! Acho was one of Sporting News top 20 smartest athletes! A defensive backfield that was 'the best Mack ever had'! Hopefully something can happen to bring US to dominance!

to be fair williams was beating coverage deep consistently he just wasn't catching the ball/Gilbert missing him. i questioned play calling as well but the only consistent WR was davis then he got hurt and wasnt the same

That time Davis missed with his ankle really affected the repore he and GG had. Your are right about Williams. GG/playcalling, whichever it was, needed to push the ball down field a little more earlier in the season. Next year we have Jaxon Shippley coming in!

So Davis is officially gone, along with McWhorter (OL) and Tolleson (DL/ST) have retired.

We have discussed Chow and I like that idea but a couple of guys that I think might be in the running as well are Tim Brewster of Minnesota and the Major. Malzahn is being mentioned but I don't know if that has any legs. He runs a spread and that is not what Texas is trying to go to but he does know Champ. Same with McElwain from Alabama. He would fit much better because that offense is what Texas is trying to go to but does he make a lateral move? I'm not certain he would.

According to the Austin Stateman: a source inside the athletic department claimed the release of Davis is completely untrue. As of 5:35PM CST.

The Statesman needs to find new sources... ;)

I wish Bobby Kennedy was on the list too! I felt like these moves could have been made to the position coaches during the season.

That was Thursday. As of then, he had not. As of Sunday Davis himself reported to the Statesman, saying that he had not resigned and he is continuing to evaluate his situation with Mack. I'm not completely sold that Davis was the entire problem.

What do you think of Brewster Trick? He's a former Horn and he would certainly bring a down hill running style. He knows Mac and was with him in Carolina as well as Texas. He's coached in the Pros under Schottenheimer and Shanahan. He's been a head coach in the Big 10. While he didn't have overwhelming success as a HC, and he didn't really have great offenses at Minnesota. I don't know about this guy but I'm worried that he might be considered. I wouldn't mind seeing him come in as TE coach though. That, he can do.

The Tolleson move surprised me. That has to be a Muschamp call. Texas defense has been pretty dang good in years past. Even this year, it played well in spots, until it got wore down. Too much time on the field this year.

Tolleson was a victim of poor talent evalution. They were questions coming in this year at the DT. Outside of Kheeston Randall nobody stepped up. To have the talent availablity at your fingertips, there is no excuse for the slip this year! I expected 3-4 losses but not to KSU, ISU!

Perhaps, but this is only one year. Texas has turned out several quality DTs and DEs these past few seasons. I'm a bit surprised that one season of poor play would seal his fate. There has to be more here.

Agreed. Also heard rumors of Calvin Howell leaving the team. This hurts now that Higgins has already left the team. DT position just got a lot thinner!

I had not heard that. Looks like Jackson, Russell and all the younger guys need to show up for us.

im worried about mcwhorter leaving, we have killer OLINE guys coming in this year including the #1 G and #5 T, all this uncertainty could scare them to decommit or follow mcwhorter to where ever he ends up

Yeah that's the only thing I'm worried about. But as far as the oline play for next season, that's where I won't miss him.

agreed but the question, as always, is who is better and will we get him?

no recruit is going to decommit to follow McWhorter. Not going to happen. No reason to even give that another thought.
