Greg Ellis for Jason Taylor?

He didn't suggest we trade Ware. He said we were stacked with Ware, Ellis, and Spencer, that we had an extra 3 and 4 next year that we could trade for Taylor and that we'd discussed it internally, and then mentioned in passing that BP was familiar with our rosters if we were interested in a player trade rather than giving up picks.

OK that makes more sense...thx

Does anyone even remember how well Greg Ellis played last year??? Had he played a full year, he'd have potentially beaten Ware in sacks...

Ellis = Coakley (version 2.0)

I was thinking the other day that Parcells liked Ellis and since both teams have unhappy vets... why not just switch them (assuming the salaries, etc. work out for both teams).

Parcells isn't going to get anything better than Ellis for Taylor (I doubt) and Taylor would be at least as good as Ellis for us. He could be in a rotation with Spencer and be kept fresh just like Ellis... only he wouldn't freak out every time Spencer makes a sack or gets a rep.

I don't see why not.

Note: He said nothing about trading Ware on TV last night.

The trouble is the salaries wouldn't work out. We'd get killed.

Plus Ellis has worked the majority of his career as a SS DE, not the weakside like Taylor. The knock on Taylor is that he could be run at. Ellis, while not the pass-rusher Taylor has been, was consistently one of the better DE's against the run.

I don't think trading Ellis for Taylor would be an upgrade quite frankly-- and the salary issues would make it an even worse swap.

Ellis for Taylor makes sense to me, but it would have to work for Parcells and the Dolphins and the money aspect would have to work for the Cowboys to even think about it.

If it took Ellis and an additional pick (3rd or 4th next year), I would throw that in if that's what it takes.

The only way that I think that the Cowboys should consider this is if it was Ellis for Taylor and a third or fourth. Not the other way around.

I do. And I hope that his attitude is good and he plays here next season. But IF he is whining again, and Spencer is showing enough during OTAs and TC, and the Dolphins offer Taylor and a pick, it would be something to consider.

Ellis did have a good year last year, but teams focused more on Ware which I believe helped Ellis with the sacks. Taylor could have an equally good season with that scenerio.

All of this discussion is for nothing anyway. Just don't think this is going to happen.

See, the salary part is what I was wondering about.

I knew Taylor was a WS like Ware... but I didn't think he was particularly weak agaist the run. At SOLB, I think he'd be fine against the run.

Anyway, the salaries will likely kill any chance of the deal happening, which is what I didn't know.

I, unlike you, Sarge, etc. expect Spencer to get the majority of the snaps this year at SOLB... so Taylor coming in on passing downs would be just as effective as Ellis coming in on passing downs. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what I expect for Ellis this year.

Hey, I didn't say that I don't expect Spencer to get the majority of the snaps-- because I do.

Another reason to have the vet with the much more reasonable contract-- Ellis.

Well one of the Dallas writers (Breer I think?) said that there could be plans for playing Spencer on first and second down and making Ellis more of the pass rush specialist.

If that actually IS the case, then Taylor coming in as a pass rush specialist wouldn't be any worse than Ellis coming in as a pass rush specialist.

That was my line of thinking anyway... and why I brought up Spencer.

The salary cap will probably keep it from happening anyway, unless Taylor would restructure or something.

Either way, QB's are gonna get his this year. :D

Plus would Taylor be willing to be a part-timer? I kinda doubt it at this point.

Ellis may ****** about it but he'll do it, I don't see Taylor doing it.

True enough.

Longshot anyway.

Wouldn't that be funny. Ellis was ticked at BP for changing to the 3-4, and now we would just put him right back in it.:laugh2:

If the Taylor doesn't show for the Fins, he can be fined $8,000 a day. The Fins are considering locking him out? Can Taylor fine Miami $8,000 a day for locking him out?

Schefter did say that even though Dallas already have some really good players at OLB they could trade Ellis or Ware.

Sounds like Schefter said we "could" trade Ware.... or course we "could" but nobody in their right mind would.
