The whole "I'm getting fewer reps in OTAs so I need to skip them in order to keep myself in shape" is a crock.

Without looking it up, can you tell me who is the Saints' OC?

See what I'm getting at?

Sure, but if RJ is going to be the Andy Reid style head coach, who's our Jim Johnson?
(Someone's going to say Dom Capers, aren't they?)

Consistently one of the worst defensive coaches in the NFL.

But Capers is a "34 guru"... I read it on teh intrawebs.
Meh, I'm not gonna think about it... Just hope we have a great year and Jerry doesn't do anything foolish.

Recap: Greg was only getting 3 or 4 reps in practice and petty much didn't feel the need to show up and stand around.

Greg's not unhappy, the team isn't unhappy. End of story.

Edit: Turns out, the "role change" from the original article probably was in fact just completely made up.

LOL. You are a piece of work bro. You really are.

You are the spinmaster extrordinaire if I ever saw one.

You left out a few things in the recap, lol.

How about Ellis not mentioning Stewart's name, but instead calling him 'the defensive coordinator'.

How about the Ellis saying he's gettin ready for 2008, whether or not it's in Dallas or somewhere else.

How about him once again mentioning the fact that the Cowboys drafted Spencer #1 last season and he knows that they have to see what he's got.

How about when Ellis says, and this is a direct quote, "Clear cut, to me, right now, they want to try some different things and they have the right and they have the right to do that...", lol.

You left that part out of your version of the recap, lol.

So please. Avoid Theo's version of the recap because it's full of ****.

I dunno, I think theo was pretty much right. The only questionable thing was calling Stewart "the defensive coordinator", but even then maybe he was just doing that because he thought the audience wouldn't know Stewart by name.

But the bottom line to me is that Greg met with Wade and they are on the same page with neither side having a problem. Greg even said he didn't think his relationship with the team had changed this offseason, where it had the last two offseasons. He pretty clearly said that what the media had reported about him wasn't true.

At least Greg is off busting his butt with his conditioning and martial arts training to get ready for the season.

DCFanatic, thanks for putting this up.

Mike asked good questions and stayed on him to get a clear answer. I like that. He didn't throw meatballs at him.

I"m not buying everything Greg is selling in this interview. He's fearful of losing his job, bottom line.

I'm not buying much of what he's selling either but I appreciate his attempt to exhibit goodwill. That's refreshing.

FWIW, I draw no meaningful conclusions from this interview.

Read between the lines. He's a little annoyed, but he's not disgruntled.

Will he be at the OTA's tomorrow? No, because Mr. Nice Guy said it's ok to skip them.

Is he a paranoid freak about the Cowboys using him as only a pass rush specialist which would mean he may lose some bonus money? YES.

That's what this is all about.

This isn't a war by any means, but there is definitely some tension.

And if we think this is the last time we have to deal with Ellis 'mumbling under his breath' about not being all that ecstatic about his role before the season begins we are crazy.

If once again it's just money he's worried about, I'm sure Jerry will take care of him. He's funny, it's like he has a really short term memory. When has Jerry not taken care of him in his career with the Cowboys?

Ellis Meets With Phillips; Says He’s Not Unhappy

Cowboys outside linebacker Greg Ellis did his best to clear the air about his recent status with the team, and did so by hitting the airwaves with former teammate Michael Irvin.

Just like the Playmaker did by getting Pacman Jones on the show about two months ago, Irvin got Ellis to call into the “Michael Irvin Show” on ESPN Radio (103.3 FM) in Dallas on Monday.

Ellis hasn’t been talking much to the media since it was reported last week that he was upset about the Cowboys reducing his practice reps, which caused him to sit out last week’s OTA practices at Valley Ranch. However, Ellis did say he has continued to participate in the team’s off-season conditioning program and hasn’t ruled out returning to the OTA practices this week.

Ellis didn’t deny that he was bothered by the notion, but did say he was not “disgruntled” and he made sure head coach Wade Phillips knew that as well. Ellis said he met with Phillips Monday morning and described the meeting as a “pleasant conversation” with his head coach, and defensive coordinator Brian Stewart.

“I just wanted Wade to know, since the media has been speculating, I wanted him to know that I am not unhappy here,” Ellis said. “It’s not a problem. I told him, ‘While you’re trying to do whatever you are trying, just understand that I owe it to myself that I’m in shape and standing out there in practice isn’t going to allow me to do that.’”

And Ellis said Phillips appeared understanding by the situation, although he certainly wants to have one of his veteran leaders at practice.

“Obviously he wants me there,” Ellis said of Phillips. “He told me, ‘You know what you have to do to get ready. I want you here, but I trust you enough that you’re helping yourself get better.’ So I think he understands.”

Ellis said he was told at the first week of OTA practices that the Cowboys were reducing his practice reps to get a better look at Anthony Spencer, a first-round pick last year.

“I know they have to get a look at Anthony . . . he’s a first-round pick. And I understand that,” Ellis said. “But at the same time, I have to make sure I get myself ready. And three or four reps at practice is not going to do that. I have to make sure I’m giving my chance the best season I can, pass-rushing wise, football-wise and of course, conditioning wise.”

3 or 4 reps seems a whole lot better than ZERO.
