If the deal is right, I would take it... I just think the deal won't be right

The guy is a headcase. Yes, very talented but if you can't predict what he is going to do, how valuable can he be? It's like the Suh situation -- absolutely dominant player that should have been suspended for the game that the team needed him the most for. Why? Because he did something stupid. Hardy has cornered the market on stupid. This is the kind of guy who gets himself in the headlines for all the wrong reasons and becomes a major distraction, often at the most important times.

I know he's got that rep. Putting aside the gray area of the DV case that was dismissed....are there any other specific incidents that make him a headcase? It sure seems like his teammates and coaches like him.

Its seems a large group of teammates loved him enough to approach ownership about resigning him after the dismissal. Enough that it was at least discussed before ultimately decided not to.

I am all for this move. Id love him on a one year prove it deal like Melton last season. I think just him alone would take our defense to another level.

No, that's the only one I've heard of but it's a biggie. Beating up his girlfriend, threatening to shoot her and proceeding to prove how serious he is by throwing her on a pile of automatic weapons. Nice. I dunno, maybe I'm overreacting. If this is the only incident and there is some debate over how much is actually true and he's a great locker room guy, then maybe.

I would love that, but Hardy is a 15 sack guy. He's getting paid.

I think it's possible for us to look at setting up something that offers him 8 or 9 for a year and then escalate depending on production. I agree that he is going to make money but maybe not this year. We could also offer him an out in, say year 3, to be able to test the market again. That would allow for us to sign him and keep him for a Romo run, while at the same time, provide time to evaluate him further and see if he is worth signing for more years. Would also give time to draft and develop other Edge Rushers.

I don't know if any of this flies but it's certainly worth discussing IMO.

I've heard indirectly that he's a giant knucklehead in his personal life, but a great teammate and player in the locker room. Just haven't heard much to substantiate the rumors that he's a headache other than that one big incident. There's so much gray area around that DV charges. I don't think anybody involved with that incident is reliable, so it's impossible to know what really went on. I do know I don't trust the accuser's story on face value, though.

Yeah, backloading his contract to make sure he stays out of trouble or production based incentives wouldn't be a bad idea.

I would love to see him be a mentor to Lawrence (for on the field stuff). He's the edge rusher we need imo.

Man, I'm yearning for a pass rusher. I really do miss Demarcus like hell.

Yeah. I'm trying to remember what it was that he reportedly said that cooled things off again. It wasn't a big deal, but an offhand quote that basically stalled what momentum he had building for a return to CAR.

Not that I think staying in CAR was in his best interest, anyway. It'll be interesting if we get to hear what Dallas concludes on him after looking into the option of bringing him in. The giant DV issues aside, I think we'd be a great spot for him if he's interested in the spotlight and a rehabilitation program similar to what we've had going for Dez.

One thing you have to say about him, is that he was a very popular, respected and well-like teammate. Just look up what his teammates thought of him and the reviews are glowing.

If the same girl had made the same accusation against Dez, most of this forum would be demanding that she be deported. To Iran.

That's what makes Hardy so tempting. Add him to Lawrence and Crawford and a first/second round DT and we've pretty much instantly got a solid young core of players to build off of. With him and Lee coming back, too, you have two legitimate playmakers on a defense that's been absolutely bereft of skilled football players for way too long. Maybe include R. McClain in that group for good measure if you're feeling generous. It goes a long way to addressing our limitations.
