My guess is that teams are deciding that the other headache stuff is not worth it.

He played hard until the season got hard, then he quit. He also was late all the time, etc.

Teams are moving on. They can find young guys in the draft that will show up on time most of the time and be happy to be there and play hard.

He could net us a 4th if he signs a decent deal somewhere else

That is the only plus I see to not re-signing him

My guess is that's why they didn't cut him with a few games remaining with the team no longer in contention. They payed the extra salary and in exchange hoped for a compensatory pick in the 2017 draft.

I totally bring him back. We don't usually get much production out of rookies outside of O-linemen. So even if we go Bosa/Buckner/Ramsey, whathaveyou, and especially Wentz/Goff, we won't get much out of them. Doesn't mean they're not worth drafting. You draft for the future. But we also need to field a quality team. I feel like our starting lineup on both sides of the ball is complete (barring injuries) other than WDE and SS. And safeties are easier to come by, plus this draft has some guys like Karl Joseph who might be better as rookies than most vets. But we don't have a starting WDE and Chris Long isn't gonna solve that problem.

Right now Hardy is nuclear waste dipped in arsenic and sprinkled in asbestos.

He could probably be had for a song.

I think this might have him signing in Dallas for another year just because no one seems to interested in him. I have no real feeling on him one way or the other at this point. He wasn't bad enough to hate here last year and he wasn't good enough to be dying to have back.

yes I think they are letting him see no other team is going to offer much if at all, so then they negotiate after he sees he wont
get a better deal elsewhere.

As movaughn88 said, another team would have to face what cowboys did last year, and that is going to make other
teams shy away, but we have already faced that so bringing him back for 2nd year isnt as bad.
Also like some have said having gotten thornton, will help hardy do more, and have a really good DL with some depth.
