The NFL appealed but the appeal did not put aside the lower courts decision. The NFL reinstated Peterson 4 days before the Vikings offseason program began which is when he could have been called to account for violating the court order.
Youre being baffled by Goodell's bull****. Pay less attention to what they call things and more attention to what they actually do.
Also just because he appeals doesn't mean they have to hear it. They filed said appeal two weeks before the Hardy suspension was handed out and if they lose that I doubt the higher court will be inclined to do it again.
Frankly, the NFL is flirting with flaunting the authority of the court. Violating the Sherman Act is a felony.
Until I see the NFLs request for an appeal denied or the NFL decide not to appeal Hardys case, I will still have the fear of them dragging this out.
I do agree with you about what they are doing or at least attempting to do. If they don't stop the way they are handling these suspensions, PR issues will be the least of their concerns. They're on the verge of opening themselves up to the courts setting their sights on them. Hopefully this dictatorship power Goodell currently wields, or is attempting to wield, is addressed in the next cba. With the players and NFLPAs supreme dislike of his handling of many different issues, including suspensions I could easily see a long lockout situation to try and get a more unbiased disciplinary authority.
