What are your thoughts?

I think he gets the suspension lowered to 8 games.

Really depends on how obstinate the NFL is going to be, and given that they chose Henderson, we can assume they will be very obstinate.

I expect him to push for a settlement that won't be agreed upon, and then he upholds the NFL's suspension. As a result it goes to court, but is quickly resolved given what's going on with Peterson.

I really really want him to go to court and get it down to 2 games. Gut feeling says if the nfl offers up 6 Hardy will accept it with no court.

I would like to see him take it to court as well, as long as it can be taken care of quickly. My fear, and I am not sure it is possible, is that he challenges it and it is resolved near the end of the season. Causing him to miss games at the end of the season while we are on a playoff push.

Union or somebody with an ounce of sense would talk him out that. It is hard to work towards a big contract for 2016 and beyond sitting on the couch.

give me your best prediction to when the ruling is final.

Too many variables to cast a prediction. Let me walk you through the events as I see it and how they branch off into different outcomes

1 - Doty finds the NFL in contempt before Hardy's hearing.
a. Judge pre-preemptively instructs Henderson to comply with his orders as it pertains to Peterson.
b. Judge pre-preemptively instructs Henderson to comply with his orders as it pertains to Peterson and Hardy.

2. Doty doesn't find the NFL in contempt before Hardy's hearing.
a. The hearing takes place and Henderson rubber stamps the NFL's suspension.
a1. Henderson pushes for a settlement and draws on the process.
b. Knowing that there is a contempt motion filed and the previous ruling, Henderson does the right thing and adjusts the suspension to fit the previous rules.

3. Hardy's appeal goes to court.
a. Doty does the same with Hardy as he did with Peterson.
b. Doty rules against Hardy and the NFLPA.
c. Hardy's appeal goes to court, but Doty rules on the contempt motion after Hardy's hearing and demands arbitration for Hardy as well.
d. rules on the contempt motion, but doesn't rule on Hardy as well.

This could be over next week or it could be over 2-3 months from now.

I think the appeal will result in 10 games. If it's reduced it should be to 2 games. I don't think there is any middle ground here. If its reduced to 6, the only reason would be because of the DV policy and admitting it's under the DV policy only lessens the NFLs case when it goes to court. Look for the 10 game suspension to stand under conduct detrimental to the league and the NFL to argue that in court.

When will the results of the appeal be announced? Same day, or is there a window the NFL has to announce it?

The NFL will have to make a case to how whatever happened with Hardy was worse than what happened with Ray Rice, who they originally gave 2 games to as is the precedent for a first time offense. They've essentially lost that battle already.

Great job. There are a lot of moving parts.

The only road block I see is the Eighth Circuit for some technical reason overturning Doty's ruling.

I don't think it's likely and I think Hardy should continue to appeal until he gets satisfaction.

We are still 3+ months from the regular season, so I wouldn't be bullied into a settlement, especially since the NFL is on it's heels in Federal Court.

I don't anticipate the 8th circuit overturning Doty. What a lot of people don't realize, especially those who criticize the NFLPA in this matter, is that this isn't a domestic violence case, it is a labor dispute. The law is pretty clear here, and the NFL doesn't have a leg to stand on.

To me it looks like a very easy case for any judge to rule it to 2 games or rule the NFL wrongfully handled the appeal (again). The way it was worded in Hardys suspension makes me think they are trying to circumvent the Doty ruling by going with conduct detrimental instead of DV. If its reduced to 6 games, that just further strengthens Hardys case since the only logical reason would be they are suspending him under the new DV policy. The NFL is really pushing the boundaries and playing with fire with these cases.

When will the results of the appeal hearing be known?

After the news about McDonald today, the appeal won't reduce the suspension at all. Will have to go to court.

It would be like giving a player 12 games for a first time PED violation because they took multiple injections. They would be ignoring the collectively bargained punishments and wording it differently to make it sound like a violation of the Personal Conduct policy. Then on appeal they would say, we'll give you 8 games if you take it right now.
