Gregory’s “fall” ends here

If we think reefer madness isn't a long term issue, I'm taking this guy for sure at 27
Big IF though.

On the flip side, also watched Shane Ray and that guy is terrible. Hope the Commanders draft him.

agree with this,he has an incredible first step but if he doesnt win immediately then he is out,not sure if he is good fit for 3-4 either because he sure cant cover.

Great post... everyone is so judgmental of these kids, they're so young mistakes happen. Not advocating taking Gregory he seems more suited in a 3-4. But if we listened too some conservative people on here we wouldn't have Dez. I think DGB is gone before 27 too, a lot talent someone will bite.

Dez's issue was lying to the NCAA, and that was more of a panic move. Dez had no other major character flaws other than immaturity and coming from a rough back ground.

But guys who fight with their coaches or fail drug test show they can be problematic. Sure, they can change, but they don't too often. See Warren Sapp.

Now someone will take a chance on them, but do we really need to be that team when we're pushing for a Super Bowl? We simply don't need the distractions, not this year.

If you want to know what we're thinking in rounds 2 and 5-7 it's going to cost you.

The guy cant stop smoking weed.

You'd be crazy to believe he will stop once he gets millions of dollars.

They said at Nebraska they had to stop drug testing him because they knew he would fail.

Plus.. He's 235 pounds.. IS everyone positive he can put on another 30 pounds? I doubt it.

Pass on this player.

You know, its strange. You'd think the weed would give him the munchies thus solving his weight problem. What's up with that?

you can't fix stupid and anyone doing what he has been doing is just plain dumb.

I'm so glad that the Cowboys have let Fisher know their draft plans. I feel like a real insider.

In past years he was more accurate than the Cowboys own guys like Broaddus. In the past most of his reporting was on the radio so I can't really show his reports from back then, but generally he has been as accurate as anybody in terms of reporting about the Cowboys. Broaddus on the other hand has been terrible in accuracy of predictions, yet there is a mass following that believe everything that he says.

Fisher did screw himself by letting one of his website minions release the report about Hardy not coming here. Fisher did release a statement saying the opposite the next day.

He said that the Cowboys offered McClain 750K and that he thought McClain would turn that down. The Cowboys ended up paying McClain a salary of 750K with incentives. The fact the 750K number was exact indicates that he they did give him the info ahead of time.

This guy definitely has that "wow" factor and would definitely be the best pass rusher there if he slides.... BUT the drug issues, and its not that he smokes pot cause I really couldn't care less, it's that he did it in such a crucial time. I think the bigger issue, however, is Garrett's stance on specialty players. No way Gregory comes in as a 3-down player. I think after a year in an NFL weight room he could put on 20lbs (though he doesn't have very wide hips) and be a 3-down guy. Can we afford to invest a top pick on a guy playing 1/3 of snaps most likely?

Can/does Garrett overlook those two things? I don't think so. I think if it was one or the other he is a very strong possibility, he's definitely RKG on the field, but those two issues together take him off the board completely I think.

Not arguing with you at all on Fisher's reliability, but someone on your staff releasing information or a report that you didn't sign off on, is one of the oldest editorial tricks in the book. If he's right, you're gold because he's your staffer. If he's wrong, you never consented to the release of that info. As someone with paper and newsroom experience, I have seen this first hand.

I think this guy will get eaten up in the NFL at his current weight. Imagine him having to go against Smith all day. I just don't see his body type translating well to the NFL, at his current weight.

Various: Of all the guys I watched play this season, Randy Gregory was easily the most overrated.
It wasn't even close.

Gregory is very lean and tall. He is long and made a lot of reach tackles.
That doesn't happen in the pros.
You try to tackle an NFL running back that way while you weigh 230 and you will have a dislocated shoulder or something.

Also Gregory was susceptible to cut blocks.
Any 230 pound OLB/DE is going to faster than most OTs. He is going to look like a pass rusher.

At DE you have to be very careful in getting overly tall builds.
In the trenches low man wins.
So those big tall guys have to be able to build up considerable mass.

And when a guy needs to add 15 pounds ot be a top 10 pick yet doesn't that tells me something.
I don't think Gregory can add weight easily if at all.
If a guy can't get to 250 in the off-season what are chance she can in season??

Add in the very poor end of season play and his drug issues and I just don't see a guy who will likely be in football in 5 years.
This guy has bust written all over him both physically and mentally.

BUT, I completely agree that he has some rare traits and if he overcame the other issues by adding weight, strength and a brain he could very well have a high ceiling.

At 27 I am through gambling tho. I want players not projects.

Ben Gardner has a much better chance of starting at DE for the Cowboys next year than Gregory does.

Fish was the guy chosen to write Jerry Jones autobiography (not spagnola)... do you really need to wander about his source?

Fish obviously has other sources and probably uses them first but Jerry is the final one and when Fish speaks with an utter certainty you can be pretty sure who he got it from.

Broaddus is good friends with McClay and gets some data from Dallas scouts but we already know those guys can be split on a player.
A guy one scou likes may be wayyy down another's board.
That's why Broaddus is so hit and miss.

Fish is relying on Jerry, an asst coach or two and a couple players.
Same as he gets his Mavs info form Cuban (when Mark wants something out there indirectly), from Donnie most of the time and from players he has built relationships with. Carlisle seems to hate everyone equally so doubt he is a source for anyone.

Yeah, what @xwalker said. Great video...of course now I'm going to lose a few hours watching all his other videos. :D

I never bothered watching Gregory because he was supposed to be long gone. Sat down yesterday and watched him vs Miami and USC. Came away really impressed. He was consistently threatening the QB. Felt he uses his hands better than any other DE I've seen in a while. Surprised to find out he was in the 230s after seeing him rocking Ereck Flowers back several times.

Seems like he'd be a better fit for a 3-4 but he looks like he could definitely play SLB in our D and be a situational rusher until he fills out. Just don't think a team could depend on him.

Side note: the Nebraska DT #7 - Maliek Collins - name to remember for 2016.

Sam LB here plays about 20% of the snaps so we won't use 27 for that.
In rounds 3 or 4 we'd be willing to grab a Sam LB.
Basically Wilber again.

BTW, Dallas brought in 7 DEs for visits.
5 of them weighed 270+.
1 was 262 and is an UDFA target.
The other is 252 pound Danielle Hunter who played the run as well as anyone has in the SEC as a weakside DE.

No one at DE below 250 was interviewed.
