Gregory for 15 million or Williams and Fowler for 5 Million?

Getting those edge rushers is a task, and they go early so you better have some draft capital to spend.
Drafting Zeke or any RB with a 4th overall is a franchise mistake, thats when you have leverage to spend on a franchise position like Edge/LT/QB, but absolutely never burn that on a RB.
Moves like that are the reason you get left desperately seeking help at the vital positions.

Since there was no one, we should've traded back, as many of us wanted to do.

Anyone still complaining about losing Gregory? You could probably argue that we actually got Williams, Fowler, Armstrong, Kearse for the price of Gregory.

Its not even close for me.

Ask me around November. Williams could be a second-round washout and Fowler could end up being more of what he was in Atlanta than in LA. If we get five or so sacks from Fowler and five or so from Williams, then more than likely it will have been worth it unless Gregory puts up a career year in Denver.

Gregory was one of our primary pressure players last year. Until he got dinged up, he was regularly hitting the quarterback and forcing quick throws. We need to have someone replace that. If the Fowler/Williams/Armstrong combo does, then obviously it was a good trade-off.

Making smart Cap decisions and lessening the talent level can often coincide with each other.

It’s all part of managing the Cap while attempting to churn the roster and retool talent thru the draft. Only time and results can measure the success.

I think he thought he was DLaw with his contract negotiations but I have a personal vendetta for him now because of how much we took care of him and gave him the opportunity to even get this contract and him basically to spit on the teams face.

For all of his faults, Jerry does try to help players whenever he can. Every team in the league passed on Gregory and some teams passed twice without drafting him. Jerry drafted him and he put up with a lot of crap because of the Gregory situation. Gregory clearly showed that he didn’t have one ounce of appreciation for Jerry or the Cowboys. I guess I am old school with my beliefs about appreciation and loyalty. Those traits are rare in today’s society.

What fans fear the most is that another team reaps the rewards for the term investment that we made with Gregory.
Wouldnt shock me to see the guy accomplish exactly what Denver wanted from him, just another one of those shaking your head moments.

yeah I think I was more upset in the manner we lost him. I'm also charlie brown w/ the football in believing in his potential. He did flash some serious disruptive ability this year though, but don't think it warranted a 70 million dollar deal.

So A) I'd like to have him on the team because he's clearly talented B) I think it's a good thing we didn't pay him that much. C) I hate the way it played out

I think that Fowler and Williams will be much better than Gregory.

Whether or not Gregory would have been worth it or not. Will depend on how well Sam plays and his impact on the defense. If playoffs come and we can't get to the QB and get bounced again, while Gregory is making key sacks propelling denver to another SB. The answer will be quite clear.

There is absolutely no reason (beyond being bored on the internet) to be asking it now since we dont know how either player is going to perform in the upcoming season.

Everyone said we were stupid for letting Robert Quinn go and keeping Gregory, and we know how that ended up.

I'd like to think that Quinn can move the pieces around enough to get pressure. Without Parsons I'd be much more worried, but we got good pressure without Gregory most of the year. He definitely provided a boost, but I'd like to think the new guys can generate some action there in his place.

In this day and age there is barely a difference between a first rounder and a sixth rounder as far as talent goes. If you look at the highlight of early rounders Jermain Johnson and Sam Williams, then late rounder Isaiah Thomas, they all look alike. Every year there is a late rounder with similar size and athleticism of a first rounder.

There are very few home runs at DE, so the more swings you take the more likely you are to find a diamond in the rough. If a team is not taking enough swings they'll end up over paying for an average DE. Some of these guys are being paid like WR's. And it's not because they're great, it's because their physical talents stand out. Case in point...Randy Gregory. Dallas was offering a guy with six sacks 15 million.

You want to try to find quality? Then you have to shop around a little more.

My issue isn’t letting Gregory walk. My issue is based on what they have said, they wanted to sign him and he went to Denver. So Denver bailed them out.

I was never a fan of that dope smoking weak-minded underachiever.

We should have got rid of him long ago and made the right decision to let him go to Denver now he has all the rope he needs to finish ruining his career.

No matter what talent he had at one time he was an independable and unintelligent player with just enough ego to think he could skate by on his perceived talent.

Granted it's too early to tell what he will do on the field in Denver but there's no guarantee he even makes the field.

There's a lot of days between now and the beginning of the season with no babysitter for him we'll see how it plays out.

Gregory was a legitimate edge rusher, he would of hit that benchmark of 10 sacks if he didn't miss so many games, it's still unknown if we have effectively replaced him. Armstrong has been a jag since he arrived, Fowler is coming off of a terrible season and Sam Williams is a developmental prospect at this juncture. Time will tell, the long game looks good, but we probably are going to take a step back next season at the position.

When it was argued keeping Gregory over Schultz in FA I didn’t know what games people were watching . Schultz shows up every week gets open stretched then chains found the end zone and is “ Dak Friendly “ and that 140 million project .

Would have preferred Cedric Wilson over Gallup that’s me . As far as Gregory the overall production did not fit the price .

The guy is a mental midget with little character. He may have great football aptitude as that has been said about him but I even question that the way he cost us several times with his offsides in the playoff game last season.
