In this day and age there is barely a difference between a first rounder and a sixth rounder as far as talent goes. If you look at the highlight of early rounders Jermain Johnson and Sam Williams, then late rounder Isaiah Thomas, they all look alike. Every year there is a late rounder with similar size and athleticism of a first rounder.
There are very few home runs at DE, so the more swings you take the more likely you are to find a diamond in the rough. If a team is not taking enough swings they'll end up over paying for an average DE. Some of these guys are being paid like WR's. And it's not because they're great, it's because their physical talents stand out. Case in point...Randy Gregory. Dallas was offering a guy with six sacks 15 million.
You want to try to find quality? Then you have to shop around a little more.
