However:

"People don't realize this guy can cover. I would put him on any tight end in the NFL. He's the next level of hybrid," Smith added. "The guy I compare him most to is probably Clay Matthews, or, when he matures and develops in the league, a Cornelius Bennett. I believe he can even play in the 4-3 as a SAM and, if you need, he can put his hand down and rush. The future is bright for him."

Gregory opted out of a number of the cone drills in Indianapolis due to cramping, but is set to perform a full battery of tests for scouts in Lincoln during his pro day on Thursday. While one last time on the turf at Nebraska might be the immediate next step in the defender's "Path to the Draft", it's not the sole focus for the determined individual and his support staff.

"Our focus is not only preparing him for pro day, but to come in and have a chance to be NFL rookie of the year. We're preparing to go into camp as a starter," Smith said. "I want him to come in and line up against the best tackles and be able to rush them and line up against the best tight ends."

I wouldn't be concerned about the weight (lack there of).

Before you know it this kid will be 250lbs.

Yeah looks like he could easily add 15-20 lbs without negatively affecting his speed/quickness. In fact it may make him more explosive.

I think they will spoon feed him pass rushing snaps this year at DE. Maybe 25-30 snaps/game.

I just view him as a pass rusher. A nickel guy to bring the heat with players like Hardy, Lawrence, Crawford and Mincey. He can be like a 3-4 OLB would be when rushing the passer. 3-4 OLBs basically play DE when rushing in the nickel anyway. His lack of weight is more of a concern against the run and he won't necessarily have to deal with that so much if he's a nickel rusher at first. Tony Tolbert came out of school as a tweener but ended up being an excellent run defender. Haley was also good against the run and was never very big (like Tolbert he was pretty light early in his career). I like that we held off on RB in the 1st two rounds and drafted two top 20 talents at 27 and 60!

As an aside, I met Tolbert a week ago (and the great Randy White) at an autograph show in NJ. They were both incredibly nice. Tolbert ( in his 40s) has had both knees replaced already. He seemed happy and laid back. Hopefully Gregory has some Haley and Tolbert in him.

I'm not sure where what position he will play. It would be nice if he did play at least some SOLB and DE escpecially with how little the SOLB plays sometimes. It could also help with gameday roster flexability. If we wanted to go heavy at another position due to team match up or injuries. For example if we play a heavy running team account for him as a SOLB so we can bring a extra DT to help anchor. If we play a pass heavy team have him on the DE depth chart and bring a extra db or coverage linebacker. Regardless he will play DE in the Nickle and with the position flex of Hardy, Mincey and to some extent Crawford it can give us some options to play with.

Run Heavy Team
4 DE-Hardy, Mincey, Tank, Gardner
5 DT-Crawford, Brent, Bishop, Coleman, McClain

9 defensive lineman

3 SOLB- Gregory, Hitchens ,Rivers
2 MLB- McClain, Brinkley
2 WLB-Lee, Gachkar

7 LBers

16 active on gameday from front 7

Pass Heavy Team

5 DE-Hardy, Mincey, Tank, Gardner, Gregory
4 DT-Crawford, Brent,McClain,Bishop

9 Defensive lineman

2 SOLB-Hitchens, Rivers
2 MLB-McClain, Brinkley
2 WLB-Lee,Gachkar

6 LBers

15 on active gameday roster which allows you to bring a extra DB or go heavy at another position if we need too for whatever reason.

Loved the video but but any thinking Gregory will step in and be D.Ware right off the bat nope sorry not going to happen. The LT this kid will be facing will be the best left tackles in all of college, some of the 2nd string guys he will face in TC and Preseason will be really good to. He was "big" fish in a small pond, transitioning to the NFL as a DE, if he is lucky he will be a medium fish in big sea where the the worst LT will be as good if not better than the best LT he saw in college. But I do like the pick and initially I think the team will use him in creative ways to use his speed.

Yup & he can practice against one of the baddest LT in the game at home..

Gregory over Mincey

I would love that to happen but I'm sure we'd rather have Gregory in on pass down where he will prosper. He will be backing up both end spots and maybe even have a chance at OTTO LB. Although Gregory did well against College OL, the NFL is a different beast. While he accommodates to the play strength and speed, we have Mincey who is still valid and as the season goes on, I'm sure Gregory will get more snaps.

They drafted him as a pass rusher so, in the 4-3 he'll be a DE.

He'll play the same Von Miller SLB here. I bet he starts as a 3rd down SLB and as he gets acclimated they'll move him around a lot in the LB corps.
Marinelli is looking for versatility in all his LBs, and I think it's because they want to get a Gregory type LB involved. One of the strengths of all the LBs we've taken in a while is their ability to play all 3 positions. Having them around, will allow Marinelli to move Gregory where the best match up is on the OL.

I think our defense will look a lot like Denver's this year. I bet the stack the strong side with Hardy/D-Law with Gregory standing up right behind them in a blitz position to force offenses to move bodies left.

That link above your post also has an article talking about how he got a stomach virus and was hosptialized about 4 weeks before teh combine and he lost 20 lbs or the like. He's been putting the weight back on. Remember he is 22 years old not 24 or 25.

The SLB is not on the field in "3rd downs" if it is a pass rushing situation. Von Miller played SLB in the base and DE in the Nickel.

my favorite highlight of him ...there is alot to pick from by the way.

is the one where he was blocked to the ground and got up and made the tackle any damn way.

That is the kind of player i want on this team.

Video please?
