Grizz: Today's scrimmage notes

Good stuff Grizz. Thx!

A little disappointed not to see Watkins mentioned.
Sounds like Hurd's a keeper. Henson needs to buy him a steak dinner.
Is Kalen Thorton no longer on our roster?
Interesting that Petitti started the scrimmage at LT.
How did Colombo do?

Thornton was cut before camp, he never fully recovered from his knee injury.

thank you grizz.

SOunds to me that the media overly exaggerrated how good romo looked, his best plays were dumpoffs. And its sad to see they were right on bledsoe.

Canty and Ware are studs.

I wonder why henson didn't get talked of, seems to me he was the best qb, although he was probably playing against worse competition, it couldn't have been that bad, since like grizz says, the defense constantly subbed different individuals.

Playing against the worst defense and WITH the worst offense.

It's great to have the play-by-play. Matt Mosely is whining in his blog about how he had one ready to go but it crashed and he will take another stab at it. My guess is he saw this one and realized how newsworthy it is. My guess is that he'll come out with one earily similar to this one with slight change in verbage.

I love Grizz.

No agenda. Just the facts.

Compare this to the other blogs. Grizz is king.

Thanks guys, the compliments make it all worthwhile, and makes me want to do better next week.

I thought I'd jump into the Romo vs. Henson thing since my own report might make it look like Henson had the better day, and that the mainstream media guys were wrong. Well, I have to admit coming out of that scrimmage, I thought Romo had the better day. I even said that in an Internet audio interview I did. I said that Henson had an OK day and Romo had the best day.

I don't know why, but when I watch them live, Romo looks better. And I have no bias whatsoever. I just want someone who can handle the job if Bledsoe goes down.

Here is the two best reason I can give:

Romo's passes in practice seem to hit the receiver in the hands or in stride, while many times Henson makes the reciever work for the ball. Many times when I see a Romo completion in practice I think "that was a good pass". Many times when I see a Henson completion I think "that was a good catch by the receiver". Just a subtle difference, but it looks like Romo makes it easier on his receivers.

Also, Romo is pretty consistent day to day (except for a rash of INT's for a couple of days) and Henson can look really good one day then just awful the next.

But I want to make the point, I really don't favor one over the other except it looks like Romo is more ready to lead a team at this time. I didn't say he IS ready, he just looks MORE ready.

Anyway, just wanted to pass that along.

Later,
Grizz

-Sounds like Canty is gonna be very disruptive this year!
-Ware sounds like a beast
- I think Columbo is just getting a really hard look by Parcells at RT. Probably not much to read in on this. Time will tell who our RT is. I will say that I would be suprised if Colombo won the job. Sounds close though.
- I think our line is gonna be much better at run blocking than pass blocking. I am ok w/ that because a good running game is the key to our offense and slowing down the rush. We will be in trouble if we have to rely on the pass.

Good work Grizz, without your reports, this would be a very boring time around these parts.

Hey Grizz,

Keep up the excellent work! I am the type of person who always saves the best for last. On a daily basis, I save your blog to read at the end cuz it's the BEST!

Thanks for the insight on Romo vs. Henson. I did notice that most nice catches in the scrimmage notes showed that receivers were often leaping or reaching low to dig out Henson passes. Your commentary confirmed what I was thinking after reading the reports; Henson's passes might not be as accurate.

I don't post much but I read the site daily and I must say I really am spoiled by the posters here great job Grizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz :D

Thanks Grizz for the report.

I know exactly what you mean about Henson making the receiver "work for it" and I'm a big Henson fan.

That is a result of his inconsistent mechanics. Compare his mechanics to the flawless mechanics seen today in all the old Aikman clips where the football always hit the receiver in stride and right between the numbers. Look at the throw to Harper in the 2nd SB against Buffalo when he hit Harper for about 35yards in the 4th Quarter and Harper went out at the one yard line. An absolutely incredible throw. I took that incredible accuracy for granted.

Romo's problem is he just isn't talented enough to be a full time starting QB in the league. Sort of a Jason Garrett type, (with less of a head for the game, but more "moxie" than Jason).
