The initial indications regarding Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski’s back failed to comply with ensuing developments.

Per the same source that shared with PFT the impression that initial indications suggested Gronkowski’s back injury was not serious, it turned out to be. He will have surgery on Friday to repair a herniated disc.

Gronkowski will be out indefinitely.

If it indeed is 8 weeks that'll have him back mid-late January. Possibly back in time for a AFC championship game and then the Super Bowl if the Patriots are to make it that far.

Obviously sucks seeing a great player go down like that, and it'll make our Super Bowl win slightly less-satisfying if he isn't playing in the game. Get well soon Gronk!

Back issues are the only reason why Gronkowski was drafted in the second round instead of the first. It was a known quantity with him when he left Arizona. With the way he plays, it's surprising that it took this long to have a second problem.
