***Gurode released*** MERGED

You could say our season hinges on keeping Romo upright. Now, we're depending on a young center, who didn't handle backup NTs very well against San Diego, a young right tackle, who's going to have some growing pains, and possibly a young guard to do it.

It might turn out to be a good thing because this line, sans Holland, is much quicker, which is a direction Dallas needed to go, but it seems awful risky to me.

Like I've said elsewhere, what Garrett has done with this line is likely to define him as a head coach, whichever way it turns out.

I have no problem with this.

I don't think Gurode was all that good anyway.

what i want to know is there someone to replace him that is as good or better than him? please explain this to me. now i am getting worried about this season. we pretty much have a whole new O-LINE :banghead:

Thinking about the offensive line from last year makes you realize this is a good thing. There are going to be some growing pains, but I love what JG is doing with the offensive line.

I always felt like Romo's ability to move around made them look much better then they really were.

Gone are the days of the 350+ mammoth leaning on other teams. Dallas is going more athletic and Gurode being released is just another sign of that. If Houck does indeed retire after this year it will be interesting to see what kind of coach they bring it to go along with this new philosophy. If I had to venture a guess now I would say Mike Sullivan from San Diego will get a long hard look.

Gurode had a slew of issues before his body started breaking down. We've been complaining about his inability to make line calls, accurately snap in the shotgun, get to the next level on running plays, and other snap timing snafus for years. Now that we're having a youth movement and releasing the liabilities on the offensive line, we want to bemoan our season?

I applaud moves like this. It sends a clear message to the rest of the players: Forget about your position on the depth chart, worry about your position on the roster.

We've gotten younger, saved cap space and sent a message. It would have been nice to get something in trade but that was highly unlikely.

Did anyone see this much change coming this quickly in the preseason? Columbo? Definitely. Bigg Davis? Probably. Gurode? Didn't see it coming this year.

I believe I did, and was roasted for it.

I thought we would get more veterans though to be honest.

To equate these two situations is equally mind boggling. This team is now set at virtually every offensive position, with the exception of FB. That team had virtually zero talent on offense, with the exception of Aikman, who was a rookie, and Walker, who the Vikings were willing to give us the world for. We were going nowhere without a serious injection of youth and talent back in 1989. This offense is young and talented and championship caliber.

Mark my words, this offensive line is going to be viewed as one of the very best in the league by mid-season. We are in a much worse way on the defensive side of the ball but I think we've upgraded the secondary and have great OLBs (Ware, Spencer, Butler). It's the interior d-line and MLBs, we are incredibly soft up the middle and it is showing up big time in our run defense. I guarantee this is where we spent almost all of our energy attempting to upgrade. If we are moderately successful doing that this season, we have a good chance to be a very good team this year. If not, you'll see a 2012 draft dedicated solely to these positions...and probably still will anyways.
I don't disagree with you, but they did have Tuinei, Newton, Stepnoski, and Gogan. They just weren't known to be any good until Emmitt was drafted.

And what do you base this on? He is a pro bowler and played great for us just last year? You people drink the kool-aid that having the star on your helmet automatically makes you great. AG is proven! Not to mention when Philly gets him it helps the them improve the worst part of their stacked team! This team is rebuilding and not a contender for anything other than getting Andrew Luck!!!! Wake the *** up people!!!! The talent on this team certainly has not improved.

you are the Jerry Jones koolaid drinker...He always holds on to players two years past their prime....how many players got voted for and or went to the probowl, 160 players from both conferences in total, is there 160 probowl players in this league??? NO!!! Probowl is nothing more than a popularity contest now, being selected to a probowl means nothing, Gurode hasn't been a probowl player for two years now, he's slow off the line, can't pull anymore and for a center, the only one in the league that doesn't make the line calls, Kosier does that here...time for all these over priced aging veterans to go, all you had to do was watch the playoff game from two years ago against the vikings to see that..

Philly is a mirage, San Fran will be getting Andrew Luck and as far as rebuilding, New England was rebuilding last year, they won 14 games, Greenbay won the Superbowl and they were decimated by iinjures on their defense....Dallas is in flux, the offensive line needed to be rebuilt and you can't install a new defense in four weeks...dallas wasn't winning a superbowl this year anyway, only Jerry Jones koolaid drinkers believe that every year

I can't remember who it was, but someone in a line breakdown noted that Dallas was using some zone blocking in one of the games. I wonder with all the young, quick guys if the Cowboys won't start to lean that way more.

I tend to disagree, as do some "experts" that looked closely at his play last year.

But I will agree that he wasn't a good fit for what Dallas is doing with this line. Neither is Holland, so they might as well get rid of him, too.

Funny how some of these people that hate this move wanted Dallas to act more like the patriots. They do something they would do and now it sucks. What they really are saying if you do not sign my pet cat or get rid of this guy then the Cowboys do not know what they are doing.

This is so true. Ive always felt like it was better to release a guy a year too early then one too late.

Tough decision for Jerra, but I believe it was the correct one.
A courageous decision, even.

for too long jerra has kept players way beyond their prime. I hope this signals a new day for personnel evaluation and cutting ties with what does not work.

And good luck, Gurode, whereever you land.

It's been that way since the beginning of time. Football time anyway.:p:

I think Brooking is on the way out the door and Sean Lee will start. But then that leaves a hole in the roster at backup RILB. The Cowboys are probably waiting to see what players will become available after cutdowns before making a final decision.
