FRISCO, Texas – So the NFL finally released its 2017 schedule and immediately, fans coast to coast likely have the Cowboys’ final record already pegged. Even though the opponents have been announced for months, there’s something about seeing the full order of appearance that creates a level of excitement here in mid-April.

The writers of DallasCowboys.com are no different, each of them taking their own slant to what sticks out the most in the Cowboys’ 2017 regular-season schedule.

David Helman: All of a sudden, the strength of the NFC East looms large – and the Cowboys are going to be up against it in the second half of the season. There’s the obligatory Giants game to open the season, and there’s a trip to Washington in late October. But that’s it for the Cowboys’ divisional rivalries in the first half of the season. Doing some basic math, that means four of the Cowboys’ six division games will come in the second half of the season........

Nick Eatman: We all look at schedules a bit differently, especially if it affects you. So having a home game on Christmas Eve was one of the first things I noticed and certainly appreciate that part of it. Then again, it’s the only home game for the Cowboys in December so that might be problematic......

I like it. Dallas will be battle tested going into the playoffs, hope they are in 2nd place most the season so their backs are against the wall. Also the rest of the Div has a tough schedule so no one will run off with it solely because of that.

If this team is all that we think it is, this schedule should be manageable. No doubt it is tough and seemingly designed to work against them but I want my team tested. When I wear my Cowboys gear and brag about my team, I want it to mean something. Success versus a hard schedule just further enforces my belief that the Cowboys are superior.

ok, the record doesnt do what the fans think it does. 14-2..8-8. regardless of the record it means nothing in teh playoffs. So its not like the team has a different mentality because of the record, they can flop at 13-3 and they cant flop at 9-7 believe me, they arent worried what any of us think they will be. So dont worry about that. The playoffs doesnt care about your record.

True, but if you're barely making it into the playoffs, you're not good enough to beat playoff teams that proved they're better by having a better record. Yes, it's true that anything can happen in the playoffs, but more times the teams with the better record advance farther than the ones barely getting in.

I like the hard schedule because it's going to give the young guys on defense a trial by fire.

I didn't say anything about their regular season record helping them in the playoffs. All I meant was with a tough schedule, they will have been tested in many different ways, before the playoffs.

Based on what? Maybe losing Dak but even then I'd suspect we'd be better record wise. Losing Dak early would likely bring Tony back.
Joking.....although I put some faith in our current roster to make the playoffs despite the brutal schedule...and the fact that .they must constantly overcome Garretts inability to prepare them to play, identify/exploitmismatches, and manage a game.

true but as a rule the teams with the best records are the ones that wind up in SB, not always but most of the time.
last year Atlanta and NE had the better records.
Only Dallas had a good record and flopped.

I think also how a team does the last 5 games of the season usually tells how good they are going into playoffs.

I would think by now the players would be revolting at least a little if Garrett were that bad.

If Dallas makes it through the last 4 games still alive then the Cowboys will be battle tested and ready to make a real run at it.
