I have a good feeling about both the Giants and Eagles games and making the playoffs. Not sure why, given our history, but this team has a whole different feeling about it. And this may sound strange, but it's our defense that is giving me this confidence. I think they have a lot of very competitive, high character guys and are far better than most think.

Marinelli prepares his starters to 3rd stringers mentally and physically all week.

They seem to understand their opponent on a week to week basis and they also make the in game adjustments when they have to.

Marinelli typically calls a good game to and these guys play right to the last second no matter what the offense or special teams gives them to work with.

Bad and good they are going to play right through.

I've seen several posts on the board with those who think if the Cowboys lose to the Giants tonight they'll still be in good position to make the playoffs. I'll give you a few reasons why the Cowboys could end up in dire shape if they lose tonight. Let's say the Cowboys lose to the Giants and Philly beats Tenn that would give Philly a one game lead over the Cowboys entering Thursdays Thanksgiving game. If that scenario happens the Cowboys would be in a virtual must win situation on Thanksgiving because a loss to Philly would put them 2 games back with only 4 games left which would give Philly a strangle hold on the Cowboys. The Cowboys would be practically done especially with their remaining schedule.

When they return from the Thanksgiving break they'll have to go to Chicago and face 2 receivers that toasted them last season. The last 3 games I remember Brandon Marshall playing against the Cowboys he owned them. The Cowboys would then have to go to Philly where the Eagles and their fans will be waiting to deliver the kill shot. The Cowboys would then have Andrew Luck and the Colts. A lot of things can still happen with 6 games left but the Cowboys have already dug themselves a hole for a wildcard spot having lost 3 conference games 2 of which to AZ and SF who hold tie breakers over them. It's looking like for a 4th straight season the Cowboys are going to have to win the division to make the playoffs.

If they lose to the Giants that will be another conference loss so losing tonight will put the Cowboys back firmly against the wall if Philly beats Tenn. The only way the Cowboys will remain in decent shape with a loss tonight is if Philly losses to Tenn. There's going to be a lot of pressure on the Cowboys to win in NY if Philly gets past the Titans. If the Cowboys are going to overtake Philly it's got to start happening the next 3 weeks with Philly entering the toughest part of their schedule. If they end up with a 2 game lead over the Cowboys after Thursday with the Commanders and Giants to finish out the season the Cowboys will end up sitting home for the playoffs for a 5th straight season.

I'm watching the Eagles and wonder where the pass rush will come from to throw Sanchez off enough to stop that offense?

My gut says, that if we don't beat Pilly on Thanksgiving, our chances of a playoff appearance are minimal. Win? And we have a good chance of going deep in the playoffs.

We're all just talking guts here, but if we beat the Giants and lose to the Eagles, we'd be 8-4. An average 8-4 team has an 82% chance to reach the postseason. I'd say we'd still be in pretty good position at that point. Thought at 9-3 we'd be at 97%, which my gut likes a lot better.

Win the next week v. CHI, too, and 100% of NFL teams end up qualifying for the post season with a 10-3 record after 13 games.

The point was that you needed to adjust those historical stats for the current conference reality combined with the fact that it would be unlikely to defeat the Eagles on the road after having lost at home. Our playoff probabilities were the 70's last week and have now dropped precipitously - which was my hunch ... had we lost tonight. 8-4 doesn't look so promising for a playoff run, IMO.

Give him a few Studs and we can become a more reliable / dominant D

I've been saying that if we don't sweep the Eagles I think we miss the playoffs, because I think Arizona will run away with their division, and the 49ers/Lions will finish with at least the same record as the Cowboys taking the tie breaker. We still have a shot, but if we don't split with the Eagles now our chances are very slim, even if we go 3-1 in the other games.

Right now best case for the 'Boys would be if Seattle can somehow sweep the 49ers (they play them twice in 3 games like we did Eagles) and if Arizona can win it's last game against 49ers. If it plays out like that, then I think it's pretty likely we'll win the wild card spot if we somehow faulter to the Eagles. It sucks that we don't control our destiny to the playoffs anymore.

What's your gut tell you?

that we're better than average and could win a playoff game, but we're not the real deal yet.

this defense needs 3-4 more playmakers, at least one at each level (d line, lbers and secondary).

the offense is good, but not great; it's too vanilla and too inconsistent. there are too many times when twill and witten disappear from games, and they're not getting enough out of the back-up running backs.

My gut feeling after what I saw today isn't very good. It's not that the Cowboys lost it's the way they lost and the fact they continue to lose at home. The defense is starting to show some major cracks and we're seeing some of what we saw last season which is very concerning. Dec is gut check time and the Cowboys face a tough challenge in Chicago next Thursday despite the Bears lackluster play this season. The Cowboys got torched in Chicago last season in a game Murray had over 140 rushing yards. Their receivers owned the Cowboys so the defense better step up because a loss next week will likely be the undoing of this team with Philly and the Colts coming up.

This is a serious stretch of games for our Cowboys. Many prognosticators and fans believe we must win the East to even land a playoff birth. I almost feel that way too--not all the way, but leaning towards winning the division.

I usually dismiss gut instincts/feelings, but I have to say; handle the Giants, and I feel really good about beating down the Eagles, and I mean really good about it come Thanksgiving.

That's as far as I will prognosticate. What's your gut tell you?

Well... You see...... Wha ha happnd wuz?
