doesn't really matter.

They will just re-negotiate with other players if they have to and then pass on signing a couple of their own next offseason.

yeah, but they might not be able to renegiate with some players now;

remember last year, they did that, and some of the Commander players didnt like what they did, so some Commander players refused to redo their contracts,

now, if the Commanders are real close to the cap, they might have to cut a player or two that they didnt count on etc.

Players usually love renegotiating because it's usually just converting salary to signing bonus or roster bonus, which they get immediately (and it's therefore guaranteed). Of course the team can try to reduce overall compensation, but usually the Commanders just convert salary to bonus. Apparently they were 8-9 mil under the cap, so now they should be right at the limit.

Also with the owners backing out of the CBA there is probably less room to renegotiate contracts that call for extensions, etc. Commanders better hope they don't suffer any more major injuries cause they didn't do much in the draft to help the defense.

I'm a little more curious to know if Taylor will show up to Skins TC. He could very well have done that to Miami since he was ticked off. Also, Taylor stated that this was his last year in the league, so I wonder if it winds up being just a 1 year deal or whatever.

Adam would probably know. He probably knows all 32 teams cap space and contracts. I swear he works for the league office in some accounting capacity. I asked him last year about Lenorad Davis contract that USA Today had and of course the reporter forgot to add some other things that would not included in the article. He'll straighten this answer out for us.

It will be multi year but the skins will be paying for a few years after taylor leaves like they did with Lloyd and Archie.

The Skins loosing a second round pick, and any cap is irrelevant IMO.
What is relevant, is their defense now.
They probably would have made this move even if Daniels hadnt been injured, just not as soon as they had to.

Taylor costs 10 mil vs. the cap this year (8 mil salary and roster bonus, 2 mil signing bonus pro-rated).
As of mid-june, the Skins had 7-8 or so million of cap space (not a number shown by the NFL officially, but looking at a couple of good skins cap sites, they seem to be rather close).

I doubt that unless they re-worked some deals. You don't free up space by making a trade and taking on a high dollar contract. Otherwise these trades would be the norm instead of the exception.

since when does trading for a player with a huge contract free up money?

I think he meant the Commanders HAD 9 million free, prior to the trade. Right now the Commanders are right up against the cap, so knock on wood for no more major injuries

Been wondering where you were. Still think I was wrong to say you should have drafted Calais Campbell? I'm not saying he was your savior, but I still think it would have been a smarter move than another TE. Just like us, I think we should have moved up to grab a WR instead of another TE.

Not a Calias Campbell fan at all. Again, when guys named Wang and Frye manhandled him (the last 2 RT's at VT) I knew this guy was not going to amount to much

Quinten Groves, maybe. Not Calais Campbell. Saw too much of him doing nothing but being hyped to want him, and apparently his old DL coach agreed.

If the defense falls from 8th to 15th but the offense is able to convert 75 percent of those redzone FG's into touchdowns, there will be a net gain right there (to give you an example, the Skins scored 5 times againt the 'Boys in the November game, unfourtantley 3 of those times were FG's, turn 2 of those FG's into TD's and we have a different game)

Is this a deal I would have done? Personally, no, I would have bit the bullet and brought in a vet who may get cut later in camp. Am I crying though that we didn't bring in CC from da U, not at all

I don't think the roster bonus carries over unless it hasn't been paid out yet.

The signing bonus (prorated) doesn't carry over unless it is part of a contract from the skins.

So unless the Skins signed him to a new contract, all that should count is Taylor's base salary.
