The Cowboys have added rookie safety Jakar Hamilton from their practice squad, the team said Saturday.

The move bolsters the Cowboys’ safety depth. Starting strong safety J.J. Wilcox (knee) will miss Sunday’s game at Detroit.

Hamilton, 24, played at South Carolina State. The Cowboys waived him on August 31, then re-signed him the practice squad the next day.

1. Jakar Hamilton promoted from the Practice Squad.

2. David Arkin Cut.

3. I admit I was wrong on Arkin. I think he gets picked up or put on the Practice Squad however.

Why were you wrong on Arkin? Was he supposed to beat out Waters?

We have not seen the last of Arkin, as I doubt he gets picked up elsewhere. So he'll just be signed to PS. We were forced to make room for Hamilton here, it's not like a white flag has been raised here and Arkin is history. He didn't look THAT bad in pre-season. If he keeps getting stronger he is serviceable in a back-up capacity. Guy brings a lunch pail to work everyday, doesn't get hurt. and is cheap on the cap.

I'll be shocked if Arkin isn't on our practice squad soon. Playing this forward I really hope he earns a roster spot next year and is not handed one as I suspect happened this year.

ok how serious is this Wilcox injury?

Yeah this is far more important than Arkin, but of course on this board it all about the guards I guess.

Can't say I'm celebrating over us bringing up Hamilton, not like us adding another UDFA safety back there is going to just make the position wonderful overnight. We desperately need some safety depth so we can have flexibility with the way we play defense. Not like JJ was a world beater himself, but at least he had potential, really got to get a time table on him.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled guard ruing.

Wilcox has his own thread or so. Let them have their fun with the Arkin thingy. :)

Yeah I know, but jesus it seems like theres not another position on the field sometimes.

As for Arkin, its not like he will be sitting on his couch, if someone else doesn't pick him up he will be on our practice squad. No reason to 'celebrate' him being gone cause if he is added by another team that proves that keeping on the roster all this time was warranted, and if he clears he will be right back on our practice squad anyway.

Arkin is going nowhere, he just got a pay cut today is all.

I thought he would stay on the roster and compete for a starting job in either 2014 or 2015 (whenever Waters leaves). The latter could still happen if he goes to the Practice Squad but I was wrong about being on the roster all year.

And the masses wanted Clabo.

Was that being proved right too?

Also there were probably more people posting Leary would never do anything than people posting he would eventually start after coming in as a practice squad UDFA.

They laughed at Jerry being excited about him. And mocked the 3rd round rating the team put on him.

While we are strolling down memory lane, I remember Jerry saying the team had a first round grade on DeMarco Murray and being ripped for that too.

Most likely.
