Hamilton called up, Arkin cut

It appears strange to me that they would hold on to Arkin this long and then cut him. It's not like anything has really changed about the offensive line since we brought in Waters to warrant the cut.

I guess Dallas must have just finally ran out of players it liked less than him.

Considering the addition of Marvin Austin, I figured Vega would be the cut since he didn't do much that was good in the Philly game.

I still maintain that Arkin played well this preseason. He still gets pushed back too much, but he outplayed Costa and, arguably, Bernadeau.

I thought he would stay on the roster and compete for a starting job in either 2014 or 2015 (whenever Waters leaves). The latter could still happen if he goes to the Practice Squad but I was wrong about being on the roster all year.

He made the roster after many wrote him off before camp even started. Then, we signed Waters and there wasn't really any competition anymore. I have a feeling he'll be back. If not with the Cowboys, with another team.

But keep in mind that cutting Arkin allows the Cowboys to resign him for the practice squad. The chances are pretty good that he'll still be part of the team. I think there is a much greater chance that Costa or Bernadeau would have been picked up by another team.

The thing with offensive linemen is that sometimes they don't reach their full potential until their fourth or fifth season. That could be the case with Arkin. Dallas' trash could be another team's treasure. Apparently, Dallas is willing to take that chance.

No choice with the Wilcox injury.

But I like what this says about the team. We are starting to build depth when you're cutting guys you'd like to keep because you have no choice.

It is astounding how many fans a guy has who has NEVER played in a regular season game and has only been ACTIVE for one in three seasons.

but then there are still those that think Henson would have been a good QB....

or Hutch....

and so on

It's all relative. With the salary cap teams need to get solid production from low cost players. Not everyone can be a Pro Bowler. No one is saying he is better than Carl Nicks or Brain Waters, but is he better than his replacement and does he have the potential to get kept getting better.

Arkin has been on the 53 man roster for way too many games to be eligible for the practice squad.

For one thing, I take this as a sign that they think Leary's knee is okay, at least for the short term. Right now Bern is the only backup guard on the team. I don't think they'd cut their fourth guard if one of their starters has anything going on health wise at the moment that would be a red flag. Unless they feel like they could put Costa in in a pinch.

At a certain point players become progress stoppers Arkin and Johnson are those players. Nobody seemed to bat an eyelid when they cut Danny Coale.
