Anyone think that Jerry is going to handle Hamlin's possible resigning like he did Colombo's?

Tell em to get out there and find out what they are worth on the market.

I like the idea but just seems like it could backfire a little too easily.

Very risky but possible

I didn't get the impression that was what we were going to do with Hamlin, at least.

I still think we will sign him before FA starts, but that may just be "hope" on my part.

I don't either. From everything I've read Hamlin expects to be back as well. So maybe they already have the basis for an agreement ironed out.

why would Hamlin be trying to recruit Samuel for the Cowboys at the pro bowl if he didn't plan to be a Cowboy next season? He's coming back.

I need to have a chat with Mr. Webster... this gets me every time.

Main Entry: re·sign Pronunciation: \ri-ˈzīn\ intransitive verb
: to give up one's office or position : quit

Main Entry: re–sign Pronunciation: \(ˌ)rē-ˈsīn\ transitive verb
: to sign again; especially : to rehire (as an athlete) by means of a signed contract

Either use one of our other safeties, draft/sign a new safety, and/or move ken hamlin to strong safety.

no reason to keep paying roy williams to be the weakness in our secondary.

I'd even maybe say move henry to free safety, hamlin to strong safety, and then get a new corner.

not trying to being madden esque, just realizing that roy isn't helping our secondary, and we have good flexible options to improve this thing.

I have read the salary cap hit would be huge and Mr. Jones would not do it.

In our grammatical setup, (American English) the hypien is used with re-sign: That is to quit, give up or leave a position previously held. That was related to me by my fourth grade teacher in 1974. In the words of the Oak Ridge Boys; "Oh How The Years Have Flown By."

I really liked hearing Ken Hamlin trying to get Asante Samuel to come here... and if we got rid of Roy Williams, we'd be able to afford it in the long run...

Samuel - Henry - Hamlin - Newman

The bottom line is that we're going to have to live with Roy Willy one more year whether we like it or not because of salary cap issues.

I don't think we're not going to resign him, and the cap hit might be worth the future security.

Why wouldn't hamlin be a long term solution? He just turned 27... he is pretty young...

If Williams doesn't make a drastic improvement in 2008, and unless he restructres his contract after this season, he probably won't be here. If that's the case, then the Cowboys may already be making plans for his departure. Can Patrick Watkins or Alan Ball play an adequate FS, with Hamlin moving to SS in 2009? Or will the team select a safety in this years draft? Time will tell.

I don't think that is the plan and here is why. Hamlin had some question marks before we signed him last year. He needed 2007 to prove himself to the Cowboys and the rest of the league which he did.

Now that the word is out on Hamlin, why would the Cowboy risk losing him after looking for a replacement for Woody after all these years?

Bottom line, Hamlin isn't going anywhere. Book it!

The cost of removing Roy Williams is 6.66 million dollars. The cost of having him play is 5.94 million.

You could definitely try trading him and getting something, and the difference in the cap is 600k, not to mention him not on your books next year.

I know you are right Duane, but could you pour a little more salt in the wounds?

Hamlin will get resigned and Roy will likely be moved, or more likely cut, next offseason unless he dramatically improves this season.

I would imagine, speculation on my part only, that the plan would then be to move Hamlin to SS and let Pat take over as FS if he's shown the coaches enough that he can be a good FS. He seems to have good range and if he's gotten better at his ball skills he could very well be worth a shot at FS.
