In our grammatical setup, (American English) the hypien is used with re-sign: That is to quit, give up or leave a position previously held. That was related to me by my fourth grade teacher in 1974. In the words of the Oak Ridge Boys; "Oh How The Years Have Flown By."
When I quit a job, I resign, not re-sign. None of the companies I've worked for has ever had a problem understanding what I meant.

Is this really even an argument? Who cares. It's a fricken forum people. I'm pretty sure people can understand what someone is talking about, by the post itself, without getting into grammar lessons. Geez.

Theoretically speaking:

If they go and get Samuel, that means that Henry would either be released or moved to free safety, where he may just excel based upon past performance. Hamlin would obviously then move to SS, which would leave the question of Roy, which isn't really that much of a question...

Our defensive backfield with Newman, Samuel, Hamlin, and Henry would be major ownage for the rest of the league...

And that would help your issue at 3rd CB, where we had the majority of our problems, how?

Moving Henry only causes you to STILL need another corner. Which means you're paying Newman a huge deal before he walks, to go along with the huge deal you're going to be giving Samuel to come here, Henry will have his big deal at FS and you're big deal that you're giving Hamlin, along with the big deal that is sitting on the bench, in Roy, for at least this season. Now add on top of that signing a first round draft pick to play nickel corner.

That is a LOAD of money in the secondary.

We'd all love to see Roy play better then in has the past 1-2 years. I accept his pass coverage skills are minimal at best; it's his tackling or lack thereof that is driving me through the roof. I just wonder if he really cares that much about his football career anymore.

Anyway I understand the cap hit to cut or trade Roy is bad too bad for the Cowboys to do anything this year so he's ours for the 08 season. After that, unless he able recharge his batteries in 08, his remaining with the Cowboys will be up in the air.

I don't think the whole problem was with Reeves. Those 3rd down conversions were usually the result of zone coverage, so there is responsibility on the LB covering the shorter zone to hand him off properly. In the drive against the Giants, Roy, I believe was playing the LB, and he was beaten and behind the receiver. So while Reeves was to blame, Roy didn't help with his part. As a QB, the only place to throw the ball is towards the sideline, if the defense plays it correctly and isn't beaten. But they both were. Reeves also isn't going to play that far off all the time, if it wasn't Wade's preference. I have seen times where Roy or AKin were responsible to jump the underneath, and they just couldn't get there in time. When Dallas played the Commanders game close, Wade said that most of the yardage was a result of mistakes by the players.

What this essentially means is that, while a 3rd corner is definitely a need, our LB corp needs to up their game, otherwise we will see the same things from time to time. A replacement for Reeves will definitely help though.

Where did you attend school? Ozarks?

Where I attended, Snotty School for the Privileged & Weathy, it's re-sign. :D

As wonderful as that scenario sounds, I don't see it happening.

Roy will start at SS and I'm not sure who will start at FS. Hamlin is an asset in the secondary but not having a quality 3rd corner is what hurt the defense the most. I can see Dallas allowing Hamlin to walk with the hope that Brown or Watkins can hold their own at FS.

Henry and Newman should be the starting corners in 2008. Dallas needs to add depth at the CB position and the secodary will be improved.

All I meant by my post is that when I read "Hamlin resigns" in a thread title, I have a moment of shock until my brain registers that the poster intends to say "Hamlin re-signs". The two words are near opposites.

That is something no one talks about but might be closer to the truth than we really know.

I do agree that at times he does act, and sulk, in a manner that seems like he's not real concerned with whether he's a good player anymore or not.

The cost of removing Roy Williams is 6.66 million dollars. The cost of having him play is 5.94 million.

You could definitely try trading him and getting something, and the difference in the cap is 600k, not to mention him not on your books next year.

I think this is probably the best scenario...but I don't think it will happen.
