From what I have watched, every game, he has been the lone bright spot in the secondary. He is very rangy and brings the wood against the run. I think he is suffering because so many people have a love affair with Watkins and he has to not only play FS but make up for Roy's declining ability at SS.

I see a lot of people taking shots at Hamlin for the Patriots game but IMO, that game is on the scheme and the coaching staff. They did not, and in my opinion haven't all season, put this secondary in the best position to make plays.

So, what is with all the hate against Hamlin i read on this board?

Hamlin blew the double-coverage on two long touchdown passes. He deserves to be cricized for that.

It's not like people are expecting him to cover a guy lined up on the opposite side of the field, like they expect some players to.

Let's see, he gets burned not once, but twice by a punk WR.

You're telling me, Roy can get beat by a TE and get beat down, but a FS that was signed to cover, can get beat by a 3WR and be let off the hook?

No wonder.....

Who is "Hating" on Hamlin?

Just cuz he screwed up and people called him on it doesn't mean they "Hate" him.

Extremists piss me off. It's all black and white to them. No gray areas. :banghead:

So, you are going to judge players based on one game; a game in which the entire defense had their worst performance of the season? You are going to judge him based on a game in which no one on the defense could cover the other teams number three wide receiver?

If that is the case, then the entire defense needs to be turned over because no one showed up for that Patriots game.

And for my sake, please refresh me, which two long touchdowns he was supposed to have double coverage on? There was one "long" pass in the game, the one on which Reeves got stiff-armed to the turf and I don't even think Hamlin had over the top responsibility on that one. The other "long" pass, was Welker knifing his way through the secondary for 35 yards against cover-2 zone. Once again, not double coverage by Hamlin.

Hamlin is fifth on the team in tackles, has two interception and 4 passes deflected. All this from the free safety spot.

Well I wouldn't exactly saying people are hating on him. He has played great for the most part and is without a doubt the best thing we have had in that position in quite sometime. However, he did make two costly errors that could have changed the events of the Pats game in our favor. There is nothing wrong with criticizing. Without critisim, he would probably make the same mistakes again.

Whoa, who's being extremist now? You're the one getting "pissed off." I agree its not being black and white. That is why I am saying judge the guys based on their entire body of work. Don't love them when they make two interceptions in a game and then feast on them when they have a bad one. There are people on this forum calling out Hamlin over and over and saying Watkins should take his spot. If thats not "hating", then you tell me what is.

Calling for a player to be traded, cut, put on the street

Kind of like the treatment Roy gets. You wanna whine about hate, get the right Safety.

Roy gets just as much love as he does hate. The guy has been to how many pro-bowls? How many people have him in their signature? What are his jersey sells like? The problem with Roy, IMO, is the over-hype, which comes from love.

I just know that our secondary (both safeties and CBs) played poorly against NE. their play was highlighted in bloggingtheboys.com analysts position by position.

I expect Hamlin to be an upgrade at the FS position. Some games he's been pretty good but NE was another matter. Admittedly I haven't taken into account how much he might have to cover for Williams' mistakes. But it's hard to know many times whether its' Hamlin or William's at fault.

I really don't think anyone knows how much its either players fault, except the coaches. Not even the so-called experts who break down every play from the game. NFL defenses use so many elaborate coverage schemes how does anyone know. I mean, that is the point isn't it? To keep people guessing what you're going to do.

I guess something in another thread just really hit a nerve and I felt a need to go into defense mode for a player I think has been very solid for us. I think everyone is entitled to their opinion however, I think a lot of people are to quick to throw players to the wolves.

If a guy plays like crap and you say "Good game" it's not "Loving" them just as it's not "Hating" them when they play like crap and you say "He played like crap".

That's the ignorant extremist attitude I'm talking about.

Overall, I like the addition of Hamlin, but I can remark about how he plays in any individual game be it good or bad w/o it being "Love" or "Hate".

What are you talking about? Criticizing a player's performance in one game is different from making judgements about him based on one game.

Hamlin was supposed to be the deep help for Reeves on Stallworth and for Nate Jones on Welker. Hamlin got caught too shallow both times. And you must be thinking of Welker's 20-yard catch when he was supposed to be covered by Greg Ellis, because his 35-yard touchdown was a simple deep post over Hamlin's head.

if Henry had been healthy, Newman would have been covering Welker instead of Nate Jones. I think it would have been a whole different story.

I agree. The whole scheme is changed...Welker probably doesn't get those 2 TD's. With all of their weapons they might have scored anyways...but thats beside the point

And I am not just talking about the comments made after one game and didn't direct anything at you, so you taking it personal is your issue. Me expressing my opinions, much like you, hardly makes me "ignorant." I was looking for clarification on why some people were so down on him. Some provided it. You provided nothing but a cut down and some criticism of me. Who is the ignorant one when you cant even contribute to a simple thread without resulting to juvenile insults?

You're the one coming in here accusing people of "Hating" Hamlin when that simply has not been the case. Not even close to it.

That is ignorance, Chico.
