Hanna, not Escobar, works as second TE with starters

If you believe in drafting your board than Terrance Williams should have been the pick instead of Escobar. The pick already sucks. Instead of drafting a true guard who most likely would have ended up starting from day one we drafted our number 3 tight end. I applaud Jason and Jerry for once again over evaluating tight ends and for neglecting the oline once again.

No offense, but what the heck are you talking about? The Cowboys didn't have a single second round rated guard. And what the heck is a "true" guard?

*check your sarcasm meter*

Something like this usually doesn't get by you bro. It is only the first day though.

Well, what do you expect! I usually don't read things from you like that!

(stupid cowboy fans)

There is no bigger critic of Jerry GM than me on these boards. I think Escobar will be a player, people keep forgetting how many miles Witten has on him, and how lucky he has been to avoid injuries. This offense would come to a dead woe stop without a similar player if Witten goes down.

Not true........while I love Witten and he has put up monster stats this offense never went through him WHEN WE HAD OUR WINNING SEASONS. This offense went through running the football successfully and big years from our number 1 WR Owens one season, and Austin another. Bottom line is we should have drafted offensive line with the first 3 picks because both our starting guards are always injured and are below average when healthy anyway. It is much easier to find a backup or 3rd te in undrafted free agency than it is to find a starter on the offensive line. I truly think we over value tight ends in the draft.........Fasano and Bennett are already proof of that, hopefully Escobar will prove me wrong but I feel he won't.

Shouldn't be shocking. Hannah's probably out there just to keep things moving. No need to start off TC by having to teach someone every step of the way.

I would imagine that Escobar will get more increasing amounts of time over the course of TC.

I agree, Hannah and Whitten to start and Escobhar will rotate in. I'll stand by my opinion of not being happy about a TE pick in the 2nd round, but he's a Cowboy now, so I hope he lives up to the draft position eventually... even if it's not this year.

;)

It is no surprise that the veteran starts camp ahead of the rookie. If it remains that way in week one, then it was a horrible pick. We could have had an OG or DT with that pick and grabbed a 3rd string quality TE later or just went with the vet from Carolina they signed. If Escobar can't beat out Hanna they should have drafted someone else. With all that being said, I think he eventually takes that spot and becomes a pretty good player.

Well then you should be doubly proud that we got both Escobar and Williams! ;)

No, that's why Jerry creamed his pants during the draft, not me.

How is drafting a center in the first round after that historical run on lineman neglecting the line? If Costa can play center and Frederick plays guard then we have the possibility of having our best 5 on the field.

The historical run on lineman was because this was such a poor draft. I am all aboard with Costa at center because I think he is a better player than Frederick anyway, and am not sold on Frederick being the starter based only on his first round selection. Still has to prove he can play at a high level.

That's only cause they undervalue guards and over value tight ends. Just because they didn't value a guard in the 2nd doesn't mean that there wasn't any worth drafting their. Remember, 30 other teams had a 3rd or 4th round grade on our 1st round pick. That says a lot about our grading system.

As for a "true" guard, is someone who played guard, was drafted to be a guard, and will play guard, not a center switching over to guard.

Despite holes elsewhere, I had no problem with the Escobar pick. I believe in drafting your board. I think he will be a player and makes an impact this year.

Does that mean, if the bop was a QB, the team should have taken him. Come on, spending the 47th pick for a 3rd string TE, when we had one of the worst O-lines in the league, & THE worst RT?!

Because of the Escobar pick, the coaching staff can be truly confident in installing a base 12 without worrying about having to scrape the formation due to an injury to one of the TEs. That's important.

The offensive line is crap, but those guys are overrated in the first place, right? At least we have 4-5 TEs...haha.

Wayyyy to early to say the Escobar pick was either stupid or genius.

Count me in too as a big fan of Hannah. He looked terrific last year IMO. He has good speed and good hands.. certainly a mismatch type player.

We traded up in the first round to get Dez Bryant and he didn't start his rookie year either... He was the 3rd receiver on the depth chart behind Roy Williams...

Not sure what your point is? I was just making a comment about Hanna and how I am a fan of his.

Now, Escobar is working at the second spot.

Hanna did something to his hamstring, per Todd Archer.
