Even if he is our 3rd TE this year, he'll likely be the 1st TE (with Hanna being the 2nd) for the next decade. How is that a wasted pick?
Is this sarcasm too? If we had a QB as BPA in the second round, absolutely we should have taken him.Does that mean, if the bop was a QB, the team should have taken him.
OXNARD, Calif. – Second-round pick Gavin Escobar won’t just be given a starting job despite the Cowboys’ plan to use two-tight sets as their base offense.
Escobar, the 47th overall pick, will have to beat out James Hanna.
Hanna, a sixth-round pick in 2012 whose playing time increased late in his rookie season, worked with the starters during Sunday’s walkthrough to open up training camp.
“Oh, it’s going to be competitive,” head coach Jason Garrett said. “It’s going to be competitive throughout our football team as to who makes our team and who plays and what their roles are. It’s no different at the tight end position.
“We really like James Hanna. We drafted him and his progress and development over the course of last year was unbelievable. He just got better and better and better before our eyes. As you guys remember, we used him a lot towards the end of the year and he really became a little bit of a mismatch player for us in certain situations. So we like what he’s all about, what he’s done, his development, his growth.”

Not sure what your point is? I was just making a comment about Hanna and how I am a fan of his.
It will be interesting to see multiple TE sets near the goal line this year. Each TE and Bryant will make it challenging for any defense.
I hit reply on your post, but I wasn't actually replying to your post specifically.
Yeah, this is where alot of people underestimate the pick of Escobar. If I were JG (hope he listens lol), anytime I'm inside the 10 yard line I would have Witten and Escobar in the game. The beauty of the 12 will be in these situations, with the opportunity to run or pass out of it.
Alot of people underestimate the value of TEs, and when they start scoring TDs, those people will go away. As much as Romo likes to throw to the position, really it should be a no brainer for us to make it a position of strength. Both Hanna and Escobar will be used depending on the situation, and the offense will be better for it.
