I get it. We have marinated in it for years it seems. If we're talking about cutting him after another injury-plagued season, that's a fair conversation. When healthy, he brings speed and athleticism that this defense desperately needs. But.......

They need to stop drafting and relying on guys with questionable injury history, especially at LB. Lee, VanderEsch, now Overshown. The philosophy overall is really hurting the team. Don't care how talented the players are. Availability is huge

He’s only going to be out a week or 2. The d-line was by far the worst position group. DE’s couldn’t get consistent pressure and the DT’s couldn’t hold their blocks. Not fair to single out #0 for an overall abysmal performance by the defense. Offense couldn’t run the ball or catch the ball.

Actually they're utilizing him wrong I get it whatever is being said is somewhat true but he shouldn't be a middle linebacker he shouldn't be brought through the middle he should be more of an outside linebacker a weak sideline backer The guy has skills he's fast but Sean Lee couldn't stay healthy either are we gonna mock him too everyone claimed he was one of the best to ever play he's not gonna take on a 300 pound fullback with a 250 pound running back that's like a fullback with speed in that game it was like tackling allstot twice.. To say he's only a special teams player dude don't get me started just don't He can play football if he's utilized properly and I think they will figure that out but that game the way they had the run game going they were a physical up front they used a offensive lineman as a fullback and then you have this big dude that can get ahead of steam going that doesn't go down come through there and it looked bad game one yes but I've seen him play football since college As a Longhorn fan he can play but he needs to stay on the weak side But in my opinion he should be one of the outside linebackers he should be turned into a pass rusher much like Parsons parsons would have never survived at an off the ball linebacker in the NFL and that's the hard truth Is that what we want the hard truth the coaches are using him wrong he has the talent the speed and the instincts he just can't be in the middle all the time.. To say middle linebacker but he can't be in there trying to play the A and B gaps all the time He needs to be brought to the outside very soon I think they'll figure that out Parker I don't believe we'll just keep using him like that..

Nailed it. In a 3-4 you need to have big, big linebackers. 250’ish or more. O is 235lbs. But again, putting all the blame on O isn’t fair. The rest of the defense was horrible especially the DE’s and DT’s.

I mean maybe something's going to happen I know they're elevating Barron(who had a solid camp and PS) I think when Overshone comes back they should try to move him to outside linebacker not like our pass rush was just dominating and maybe you bring over Bobby Wagner or you wait till after week two is that still a rule you don't have to guarantee the contract maybe you get one that's still a free agent if you really feel like middle linebacker is there is still a need to help teach Barham the system..

That dude’s a player. He’s already wearing the green dot in Miami. I was hoping the Cowboys were going to draft him. A little small for the 3-4 though so not sure how he would fit but he can play football for sure.

Demarvion Overshown was drafted in the 3rd round in 2023. A guy with great speed at LB, and a desire engine that ran high. He would have been drafted in earlier rounds that year had he not had a problematic injury history.

How bad was Overshown’s injury history? Let’s start with his 5 years at Univ of Texas:

• Between 2018 and 2022, the Longhorns played in 64 games including post season. He played in 50 of those 64 games.
• That was about 78% availability. Not great, but certainly better than his pro availability.

Since he was drafted in 2023, here is Overshown’s availability history in Dallas:

• He has played in 19 of the 52 regular season games he could have played in since his arrival in Big D.
• That is an availability rate of about 37%. Ouch.
• After his hamstring injury Sunday night in NY, he will be missing at least one game and maybe two.

Overshown is a hard working, committed young man. No one can question his heart or work ethic. He has twice worked through terrible knee injuries to return to the field. I feel bad for the young man’s luck with injuries.

But as the old saying goes, the first ability every professional athlete MUST have is availability. With an availability rate of 37%, we cannot keep holding a roster spot for a player who is constantly injured.

That may sound cold hearted but if we are committed to turning this thing around, you have to make hard decisions like this. Overshown is in a contract year. If I were the Cowboys FO, this would be his last year here.

Besides this last game, he's always showed a ton of talent when healthy but at some point you're right if a player can't stay on the field you eventually have to move on. I have no idea what his next contract looks like, but would be really hesitant bringing him back for anything significant.
