Hardy chasing $1 million bonus today against backup LT

I sure hope that the cowboys do not sign this guy back. what a total waste of a player and the distractions that he bring is not worth any money. also mcclain needs to go too.

Shame on all you so quick to dismiss Greg.

Whatever happened to 2nd changes? And 3rd or 4th chances?

Doesn't helping Hardy become the best person he can be and an advocate against DV mean anything to you guys?

Doubtful he's back next year in my opinion, certainly not at the $ he'll want.

The Commanders are sitting left tackle Trent Williams today.

Meanwhile, with 4 sacks, Greg Hardy can earn a $1 million bonus this afternoon. With 2, he gets $500K.

After disappearing for six weeks, watch him go off today.

he hasnt disappeared the guy is literally chasing the QB on almost every play.

I think he'll be back in Dallas.

Just no where near the amount he thought he would receive.

Most teams won't sign him... he's toxic.

And then you put in the rather ho-hum season and it's not a bank-breaker.

Where was his 2nd or 3rd or 4th chance that he blew?
And by all means lets round up all DV offenders and just shoot them in the head.
If nothing else it would do wonders for population control.

From a Cowboys perspective it almost certainly comes down to money.
Likely the same most everywhere else.
He is going to be a top 3 DE in FA but no where near the prospect he was 2 years ago when he would have easily gotten 200 million.

Hardy has done zero wrong since his DV incident. It was a first offense and he is far less risk than just about anyone in the substance abuse program.

Dallas can't start Gregery at DE because he can't play the run yet. He's absolutely dreadful there. Hardy is easiuly our best DE but he's no longer as valued as DLaw with his upside and contract.
Would be very helpful to have back but at the right price. 7-8m a year. Not 10-12m.

I want him gone but not for the DV issue. I'm over that. The reason why he needs to go is because he played against a back up LT today with incentive to play hard and make plays and nothing. An elite pass rusher should own a back up. An elite rusher should own starting tackles. Throughout the year he has had moments but it seems like he is just a step behind in getting the sack.

We can draft someone or sign someone ( and we have plenty of) just guys that are a step behind in making the play. Why give him the money for a new contract if he's not going to impact the game. We have a lot of guys that can almost make a play, that's our problem. We need to spend money on guys who can make the play, make the impact on the game/season. Hardy has not impacted this defense in a productive manner this season.

On football basis alone I'd say goodbye Hardy. He's not getting it done. Don't pay him 10+ million to be a different name on the dline that almost makes plays. I'd rather invest that money into a CB or a safety and continue to develop DLaw and Gregory

It's almost like he is this year's Henry Melton.

Remember Henry Melton? He was 2014's defensive savior.

He had 5 sacks in 2014. Hardy had 6 sacks this year.

Just pointing out how laughable all the humanitarian excuses were back when he was signed.

Nobody really cared back then just as nobody cares now.

That's a bit overstated. Hardy had 6 sacks in a season he was suspended 4 games. DLaw led us with 8 sacks in a fill season. Both guys averaged 1 sack every 2 games but apparently DLaw was awesome yet Hardy sucked??

Where Melton and Hardy could be alike is in having to leave if they want the big follow up contract they expected.
Dallas doesn't seem likely to pay Hardy huge dollars at his age with younger options and a delicious draft spot every round in place.
But make no mistake Hardy is BETTER player than Cliff Avril or Michael Bennett. If someone gets him on a reasonable deal and he is healthy next year he likely escalates again to his double digit sack pace.

Hard to judge him off this game game alone, particularly considering the Skins ran the ball so much today. But I agree that I don't want him back unless it's at a major discount. The fact that most teams won't even consider him based on his history and behavior/antics makes me think that might be a realistic possibility. But he's not worth a big contract. Only problem is losing him opens up a big hole at DE for us.

Understood.
I think of it much like I do the Cosby defenders whgo argue racial bias in that it has the opposite effect of intention of the argument.
People are tilting at windmills and ignoring the reality of the situation.
They could care less about the woman involved or the fact that Hardy was punished more harshly than 99% of all not felony DV cases. --or the african-american women involved with Cosby or that he has received zero punishment until now.

They are just built to hate and he is a convenient target.

THAT act is what reduces the seriousness of DV. Take action for the poor woman who takes beatings regularly because she doesn't know any other way to keep her kids fed.
Volunteer at a Woman's center.
Don't play keyboard warrior towards a guy who has complied with the law at every turn of the case and since, whose lost at least 100 million dollars and a year of his career plus provided a large financial settlement to his ex-fiancee then stayed out of trouble since.

No reason for anyone to become a fan of his for sure but stop acting like he has committed some heinous atrocity like the pedofiles or rapists or murderers.

But mainly lets not pretend he has blown any 2nd chance. Much less been afforded 3 or 4.

Well I never said that DLaw was "awesome", I just said that I would like to continue to develop him. I don't think anyone on our dline is awesome. We have a bunch of guys that can almost make the sack.

Now what I really appreciate in your post is the stats. If both DLaw and Hardy averaged 1 sack every 2 games then I have a hard time justifying bringing back Hardy for top dollar. If we get the same production from DLaw that we get from Hardy but at a fraction of the money then I would be disappointed if we bring back Hardy for a 13-14 million a year contract with a big signing bonus. Again I would rather use that money elsewhere on the team.

But as one poster said in this thread (sorry I can't remember who), if we can sign him to either a 1 year, low salary, incentive laden contract then I would be okay with that, or if we signed him to a 6-8 million deal with a signing bonus that is reasonable. I just feel strongly that if he wants a long term deal averaging more than 10+ million then I say we let him walk. I think we can either draft someone and continue developing DLaw and Gregory. If Dlaw gets the same amount of sacks as Hardy, why pay hardy 10+ million a year? Now I can see a side of the coin that says DLaw wouldn't have gotten those sacks if he was the #1 DE because offenses would have to gameplan for him.

So who knows, but I think it would not be a wise investment for the team to resign Hardy for anything more than 6-8 million or a 1 year incentive contract. anything else would be unwise IMO.

In that world, Chris Brown ends up looking like the last scene in "Bonnie and Clyde".
