People have been saying for years that we need to sit back and laugh at teams that try to rebuild in free agency, while cutting ourselves loose of bad contracts and building through the draft. Well, so they better not be complaining at all.

I don't know how to feel. We've done a good job of cutting dead weight and not giving out any bad contracts. But now we seem shell shocked when it comes to signing anyone. All I know is, we were a very good team last year but not the best team in the NFL. I still think Green Bay would have scored had the Dez catch been ruled complete. And teams that were in our league (Seattle, Green Bay) are getting better or at least not getting worse.

We were a pass rusher away from being legit Super Bowl contenders. Now, we're losing our RB who helped define out offensive and team identity, losing possibly a trio of LBers who helped a depleted defense overachieve. Losing special teams and offensive depth. And we haven't even upgraded the pass rush.

Who knows, though. Maybe it's a good thing. Don't do anything foolish. Be patient. But it's just hard to imagine that we'll be any better than we were last year (which wasn't good enough to get it done). We're not New England. We haven't proven that we can cut all of our stars and still make the Super Bowl every year.

Wait, who signed Durant. Murray was obvious, and Harris is overrated (there are so few times I can really think of when he really made a KR/PR longer than it should have been, and these past two seasons he has been worthless as a WR) but Durant is a big loss.

Falcons if I'm not mistaken

Ok we've lost a lot of talent so far today... Harris, Durant, and (99% sure) Murray. I'd love to have them all three back.

We haven't "overpaid" for an FA in a long time and I don't see why we don't get a Hughes and maybe "overpay" just one top tier FA.

Durant is already replaced, Harris is nothing more than a return specialist, but Murray.. we should definitely be locking him up.

These players were all good cowboys and I do hate that we lost them. That said, if this was tfred, tsmith, and zmart, well then we would have a real reuage on our hands..

Harris is a 6th round pick that never developed as a WR, but turned out to be a solid return man.

Durant is an LB we signed off the trash heap for 1M/year. While there were times last season when he looked like the best player on the field, he only played 6 games. He only played 16 games total in his two years as a cowboy, and he looked injured half the time in 2013.

We've always known Murray was a talented back, but as a pro his durability is still a question mark. Were his first three years a fluke? Or was this year a fluke? And with the usage he got last season, will he be more likely to break down this season?

Now we'll see if the team has a plan. We have a good RB in the stable [Williams]
though yet unproven. We diffidently draft RB early, returner and defensive line.
I'm happy and check back with me at the end of the season and ask me if I'm still happy.

Williams' long injury history (torn patellar tendon; bad shoulder) and Joseph Randle's off-field woes scare me. If Murray leaves, the Cowboys need to add an inexpensive free agent (Ryan Mathews?) for insurance and draft an every down runner.

Free agency wasn't even two hours old when you hit the panic button.

That's gotta be record.

Anybody keeping track?

We have to pay Martin and Frederick starting in two years. Plus we need multiple bodies, particularly at DE, LB, KR and RB, right now.

If we frontload a $10m deal it impacts our ability to go into the draft without glaring need. If we backload it then we are going to impact the cap when our OL needs to be retained much like Carr's deal is impacting our ability to keep offensive skill positions now.

It's the first day. I wouldn't sweat it too much yet.

Is it me or on runs of 40 yards or more does it seem like Demarco is carrying a bag of bricks?

Misleading thread title. Murray is not bye bye.

He is good as gone. Obviously the Cowboys don't care because they are not desperate to pay him what he wants. They have a backup plan and they don't seem worried.

If Murray signs with Philly and Matthews ends up backing out (or forced out), then I would like to bring him in here. He is a good back when healthy. So long as we don't overpay (and with a contract similar to what Philly was going to give him, I don't think we do) then I would welcome him. He would feel jilted and maybe have an additional need to prove some folks how good he can be. Just a thought.

Can we get into trouble for being so cheap? Is there going to be sanctions placed on us for this bizarre behavior?
