If this forum had spoiler tags, I would ask a ton of questions about this movie and the series in general.

I have not read any of the books but some of the plots don't make sense.

One question I have which I don't think is a spoiler is the concept of Horcruxes.

To me, if I split myself or my soul into 7 pieces, it seems like all one has to do to prevent me from putting myself back together is just destroy at least 1 of the pieces and the game is over. Not sure why you have to destroy all 7.

Good question, and that aspect is never really addressed directly. But the point of the horcrux as I understand it is so that if your physical body is killed, you don't truly die because part of your soul is in the horcrux. I don't think the purpose is to break it into pieces to be reassembled. So if 1 soul repository is good, 7 must be exponentially better.

It's not about putting himself back together. He split his soul up so he couldn't be killed, which is why after they think he's dead to begin with, he manages to come back in his current form.

He doesn't need his soul to survive, in fact he doesn't want it, but by separating it from himself he has essentially made himself immortal.

They are looking to destroy them not to kill him directly, but because it would make him mortal again so they could kill him once and for all.

In the book they make a big deal out of the fact that he did in fact split it into 7 pieces, which is thought to be especially diabolical because doing it just once is considered a black art and a sign of a corrupt heart to begin with.

yeah i think its the first book theres the rumours of a dark spirit haunting woods in eastern europe. he was killed when he tried to kill harry but due to the horcruxes he remained though not in physical form, which he then regains in the 5th (?) book. as previously said he doesn't require all 7 to unite in order to be invincible. the fact that he has parts of his soul deposited in a number of different places means that he has insurances in case something goes wrong like when he went to the potters house when harry was a baby. or at least thats how i understand it.
