Has anyone heard any news on Amobi Okoye?

I can see Okoye getting moved to the IR, if he's not needed due to injuries or just terrible play by someone. Let him compete for next year.
Brent, though suspended, doesn't he also need to apply for reinstated, to unretire? Has he done this yet, or was that part of the suspension deal. If he can't play until week 11, same deal, wait until next year.

I feel both would be much better by waiting until next year for various reasons.

After reading his story, i don't think there's a chance he plays a down this season. They will continue to monitor and take his return very slowly and cautiously. I expect a move to the IR within the next month.

There is no reason to move him to IR. He's already on NFI and can stay there until as late as week 14.

I'm assuming that Brent has done whatever is required to be eligible to return when his suspension is over.

It's been reported that he is going through intense training to get ready to play. I would be concerned about cutting a player that has been playing to add Brent to the roster; however, he could probably have walked out of jail at 11:00am on Sunday, played in a game at noon and would have been better than Nick Hayden.;)

That's I was was getting at, but forgot to add it, if he's still on the list at week 14, can they move him to IR.

He is on the NFI list and can't practice for the 1st six weeks at a minimum.

A player on NFI can come back as early as week 7 and as late as week 14.

Where did you get this?

Here's my understanding. Same as PUP. Must be out for first six games his team plays. After sixth week of regular season team has a five week window to return to practice, release or IR. If returned to practice team can have a maximum of another 21 days to either practice, IR or release. Only difference is accounting for bye week.

A player who finishes the preseason still on the PUP list can then be placed on the regular-season PUP list. Such players must sit out the first six games their team plays. At that point, teams have a five-week window in which to allow the player to begin practicing; from the day the player begins practicing, teams have an additional 21-day window in which to decide whether to activate the player to the 53-man roster. If either of those deadlines pass, the player must remain on the PUP list for the remainder of the season

6 weeks out + 5 weeks to return to practice + 3 weeks after return to practice = 14 weeks

I think technically they just leave him on NFI, but he can't be activated after week 14. It's basically the same as being on IR; although, I think there are some differences in compensation type issues with NFI vs PUP or IR. For instance, if the cut him now, they wouldn't owe him an injury settlement; whereas, if they wanted to cut a player on IR, they would have to give them an injury settlement.

I know that Spencer signed a split contract such that if he was on IR or PUP for the season, that he would receive about 1/2 the veteran's minimum salary. I would guess that Okoye has some type of reduced salary being on the NFI, but those rare type contracts don't always show up in the contract data that is available on the internet.

I can count.
