Has anyone really thought this through?

Actually, I didn't want TO, but until this year he surprised me. I thought he was doing a good job as a teammate. Not so after the Deion clown show.

And I'm sure some guys would be mad if we cut him, but so what. The Pats were mad at Belichick when he cut Lawyer Milloy, but they got over it. The sooner the process begins, the better.

And while I wouldn't have him on my team at any age, if he were 26 I might be willing to put up with his crap. Too bad he's going to be 36 instead.

Now I know what you're going to say...

Terrell Owens has not aged! It is all a lie from the infidels! He has not lost step and still run 9.01 100m! Felix Jones run proves this!

And he never cause locker room problem either! All lies from infidel media!

Didn't you say just a couple of weeks ago "we're screwed anyway because someone on the radio said guys respect Owens more than Tony" or something?

I didn't see 20 interviews with Lawyer Milloy after his release from New England. You'd better believe we'll see twice that many if Owens is released.

It's funny how so many assert he has so much power over the team (Bill Parcells left because of T.O., Dan Reeves wouldn't take the job because of T.O., Jason Garrett couldn't do his job because of T.O., Tony Romo played poorly because of T.O., the team failed because of T.O., he poisoned the locker room, Jason Garrett didn't get the Rams job because of T.O., Patrick Crayton and Roy Williams are lashing out and grew big mouths because of T.O.) but deny the possibility that Owens actually DOES have power with the media and has them hanging on his every word, and could use that as a means for retaliation.

Naive? The TO-McNabb break-up was news for about 3 weeks. Then it died down.

Sure there were splashes every once in a while, but not a season long affair.

Don't get hung up on your love affair with Terrell.

You're either too young to remember or you just weren't following sports at the time.

It was a big story for the remainder of the season and even a little into the off-season.

What JT, er, DT doesn't realize is that if we actually did cut TO, the sporting world would give us tons of props for it. And they'd either make fun of TO for not having a job anymore or they'd just follow him to his next team. A few Bull Durham-type cliches from our guys about how we enjoyed his time here and wish him the best, and the hoopla would mostly blow over quickly.

exactly right.

If he were cut in february there would be a circus until the draft or until he signs with a new team.

This would be perfect would it not. The guys would be at the ranch lifting every day and it would be all the guys that get along and no one demanding or choosing sides.

The circus would blow over by april and the draft would bring new players and new stories to Dallas. The circus will just pick up and go with owens wherever he goes. I am sure he will throw some people under the bus, but who cares he aint our problem no more....

and what if by chance, with all the guys lifting together all through march and april the team got closer, like it was in 05 and 06.

Just think, a normal functioning organization, well until irvins reality show kicks off.

Exactly Duane! A reality show! Quick grab the kids, and head for the basement. Don't forget your lithium, son!

So Owens's comments to the press are only a distraction when he's actually on the football team?

Or, negative comments, made by Owens or any other member of the mass media, pertaining to one Terrell Owens, are only a distraction when Owens is actually on the roster?

So, just to make sure I have this straight:

Owens makes comments on reality show about team while still on roster, it's a major distraction.

If he's not on the roster, it's not.

Owens makes comments to media members in interviews while on the roster it's a major distraction.

If he's not on the roster, it's not.

Owens receives criticism, along with the Dallas Cowboys, while a member of the team, it's a distraction.

If he's not on the roster, it's not.

Cowboys players receive tons of questions and scrutiny as a result of anything, especially one Terrell Owens, it's a deadly distraction.

However, they can receive as many of these questions and as much scrutiny as possible, but should the subject of this controversy not be present, the distraction therefore ceases to exist?

Is this your belief, sir?

You fail miserably at your attempt at being snarky. It doesn't work when you're unable to actually refute the points I've made.

The bottom line is that cutting Owens for the sake of "removing distractions" is poor rationale. If it saved cap room and/or coincided with a decline in his ability to perform as a result of declining ability (which is not the case, no matter how much you wish it to be so and how much you are willing to put credence in hollow, superficial statistics), that would be one thing. I'd be in favor of his release if the team had better talent behind him and/or they saved a significant amount of cap room and could better the team.

But even if I agreed with the ludicrous assertion that the team underperforms because of distractions, I would still not be in favor of his release because the reality is, whenever the man leaves (unless it is by his own choice, i.e. retirement), he will not leave quietly.

Now, kindly state where you disagree.

Duane, they'll all think you're crazy. But I'll be with you. We'll have tee-shirts made. We'll get matching haircuts. Don't worry. Nobody else has to think we're sane. We can even get matching pocket protectors. You really sold me with this latest theory!

I don't care to sell you on anything. I'd just like to know what the strongest counter-argument is. I'd rather be shown the error of my ways (since I'm ignorant enough to believe that releasing a lightning rod might actually lead to MORE distractions because of his media omnipresence, but hey, who am I kidding, right?).

Great idea! And we'll make up a song. I really think Duane has something with this latest theory. It smacks of genius.

Well then how can I un-sell you?

I changed my mind. Cutting Terrell Owens will solve all the team's problems. The players will be holding hands and singing kumbaya just like theebs says they will, because all the guys love each other except for Owens. Everyone hates him. He's a big meanie.
