Has Hollywood Run Out of Ideas?

Hollywood has always made lots of remakes. There are fewer good ideas than there is money to be made from the movies. So, when a good idea comes along they will make it several times over. It seems like maybe the '90s were a particularly low decade for remakes and that has given people the impression that the current remake/prequel/sequel craze is something new as opposed to a resumption of the way that things have been for most of film history.

Heck before TV there were several movie series with multiple sequels.

It comes down to risk-vs-reward and the risks are greater with a new IP based movie even if the book it is based on sold well. Rebooting an old movie is not always a bad thing especially with today's technology. However, I draw the line at rebooting recently rebooted movies. Every so often, a reboot of a reboot will be successful so it pushes the movie studios to make more of them instead of original stories or movies off popular books. They are counting on the sheep (us) to go see the new reboot if we liked the last reboot.

I agree with this. I really have grown tired of Hollywood. Sure, there are some good movies out there. But for every one good one it seems like there are two are three bad ones.

I still prefer documentaries over movies most times, but I'm always a sucker for a good 3D flick at the IMax theatre. Those are awesome. I'm not a Pirates of the Caribbean fan, but my wife is. And technology has really made the potential to make great movies. They just don't have the best scripts, it seems.

But yeah, it sort of gets old after the 4th reboot. LOL

Blade Runner was based on a book, not an original idea. I'm sure that book borrowed a lot of ideas from previous works. And so on.

I'm not sure that stops it from being an original movie, but as I said, I have no idea. If you're looking for a movie with ideas no other movie has touched on, then chances are said movie is an incomprehensible mess.
if you agree with theo it does(which in this case i do)
