Call me crazy, but didn't the Morning News article state upon Parcells' arrival that, when negotiating the salary with Jerry, he just asked Jerry for the average of what the the league's top five-paid coaches were making at the time? Can anyone verify that?

That is correct. Seemed like a bargain at the time. I still don't get people around here. Parcells went w/ the youth movement. It was great early, but has fizzled more due to injuries and freshman burnout than anything else. On offense, Flozells injury was huge. You know during the San Diego/Colts game the announcers mentioned that the Colts have not lost a starter all season(not sure if they mentioned if that means IR or just a game or two). Anyway, Parcells will say its not a sprint in the NFL. We have fallen apart mostly because of injury and the fact that our young guys don't yet have the stamina to handle a 16 game season. I do think Parcells has done things wrong, but so has every coach. He will right this ship. It would be stupid for us not to try to extend his contract.
