Has Shotty been given an unfair chance by us fans?

Here are the Cowboys interviews they completed

Head coach interview requests

Two of those were to satisfy the Rooney rule. The other was Kellen Moore which supposedly got cut short and Shotty.

To compare here is what Chicago did

Head coach interview requests

  • Joe Brady, Bills OC (completed)
  • Thomas Brown, Bears interim HC (completed)
  • Matt Campbell, Iowa State HC
  • Pete Carroll, former Seahawks HC (completed; to be hired as Raiders HC)
  • Brian Flores, Vikings DC (completed)
  • Marcus Freeman, Notre Dame HC
  • Eddie George, Tennessee State HC (completed)
  • Aaron Glenn, Lions DC (completed; hired by Jets)
  • Ben Johnson, Lions OC (hired)
  • Mike Kafka, Giants OC (completed)
  • Kliff Kingsbury, Commanders OC (scheduled)
  • Mike McCarthy, Cowboys HC (completed)
  • Todd Monken, Ravens OC (completed)
  • Drew Petzing, Cardinals OC (completed)
  • Ron Rivera, former Washington, Carolina HC (completed)
  • David Shaw, former Stanford HC and current Broncos exec (completed)
  • Arthur Smith, Steelers OC (completed)
  • Adam Stenavich, Packers OC (completed)
  • Mike Vrabel, former Titans HC (completed; hired by Patriots)
  • Anthony Weaver, Dolphins DC (completed)
Seems simple to me…..

One team is looking for the best coach, the other is looking for someone who “knows how we do things here with the Cowboys.”

Either way, the biggest problem (Jerry’s mouth aside) is the reliance on draft only. I don’t even want to see them add free agents now. Would only be rubbing salt in the wound after having not done so over 21-23 when it probably would have made a difference.

Cam Newton believes Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones has a master plan to draft Arch Manning and hire Nick Saban as head coach in 2026

“I think they’re tanking for Arch. Make it make sense. Coach Schottenheimer has one-and-done written all over him,” Newton said.

“Jerry Jones is a businessman, and he’s going to get into his Don Corleone mentality and he’s going to give him a deal he can’t refuse. Who? Nick Saban. Go get Nick Saban as your head coach and Arch Manning as your No. 1 pick.”

The guy hasn't coached one practice or one game yet, and we're believing the worst. In all honesty our anger and negative comments shouldn't be directed at him, but it should be directed at the process in which he was hired. The lazy nature of the job search, and not looking harder at outside candidates isn't on Shotty, it's to blame on the owners of this team. Who knows what could happen, Shotty could surprise us all, Jerry and Stephen doesn't draw an ounce of surprise in us as fans. The Jones family has dried up all hope!! With that said, let's support Shotty, and see what he can do with this team. What's the worst that could happen, a Superbowl appearance or not?? You tell me! Please give your thoughts!
well, the fanbase is burned several times. we have had several first time coaches and they failed. so history is on the fans side. plus, this guys hasn't really produced a WOW offense in his career. always middle of the pack and towards the end of the pack. his one top year was with prescott and cowboys. but it went back to flailing.

and yes, shotty could surprise us. there is a 0.1% chance....so its not zero.

I think that this franchise is in dire need of new blood and a culture change. The FO had the opportunity to bring in a new HC with new ideas and jump start the franchise.

So…the FO interviews some folks from the outside, but ultimately hire a journeyman OC with 25 years of experience yet was never tabbed for a HC job, or even call plays these last several years. And their reason for the Scotty hire? Comfort, consistency and communication…the new holy trinity of coaching. Jerry was clearly tapping into his “inner coach” persona which spoke to him about Shotty.

Shotty was the safe pick because he isn’t going to make waves; he isn’t going to challenge Jerry or Stephen; he isn’t going to ask Dak to do anything different to improve his game; and despite comments to the contrary, the offense will probably remain the same and weaknesses/depth will more than likely be only partially addressed via the draft…less a fourth-round pick.

Time will tell but the way this organization is structured and in conjunction with the existing culture, it is difficult for any coach not to be successful.

The fans have nothing to do with the chances BS has been given. Jerry has given him the short end of the stick and he has accepted. The fans are only requesting that a REAL HC be hired and have the cajones to demand Jerry get out of the way. Just think what Jerry would do if no one accepted to be his puppet.

Superbowl? If he wins one with this mess of Walmart greeters, then he is better than I think.

Yep, the problem we have is the fragmented strategy. It's difficult for the Innovative HC coming to Dallas with an Owner that wont support the coach (with resources) and who's got a QB that's somewhat limited in: mobility, progressions and patterns (we use curls because it suits Dak's abilities).

It's a cheap hire based on hope that masks Jerry's mistake in giving Dak the contract. Schotty's the kind of coach that's left once the Johnson's of the world are enticed by a contract and the ability to mould a young QB.

We were offering nothing and we got (next to) nothing. The interesting question is whether we rinse and repeat this into the next cycle (in 2/3 years).
