There are two big physical differences between Reddick and Gregory that makes Gregory more likely to be a 4-3 DE. Gregory is taller and his arms are significantly longer. Basically there's a reasonable chance the Cowboys thought Gregory could add some weight to his frame and not lose too much and long arms are better for pass rushers.

Gregory has the height advantage to be sure but his arm length is not significantly longer with Randy at 34" and Reddick at 32 3/4 ".

Reddick ran a 4.52 40-yard dash, flashed a 36.5 vertical jump and was near the top with a 133-inch broad jump. His 7.01 3-cone.

Gregory ran a slower 4.64 40, same vertical jump and slightly better 3 cone 6.80.

Randy was 2 pounds lighter than Reddick being 235 lbs to Reddicks 237 lbs at the combine and if he reasonably could add weight than Reddick can also and what part about Mayowa at 240 are we missing here?

Pundits and many here thought Gregory was too light to play RDE as some do with Reddick but the Cowboys reject that notion.

Benson Mayowa is 6'3 240 within 3 pounds and two inches of Reddick and plays our RDE. He is slower at 4.73 40 and also is viewed by some as undersized as well.

The Cowboys covet the quick twitch and speed off the edge and Reddick has it in spades!

The way he blew up the Senior Bowl and the combine, I doubt he lasts until #28. :(

Because he doesn't fit perfectly at those. He's still a little on the small side, a lot on the small side for MLB.

If you believe mockdraftables for MLB he's 32% on height and 22% on weight. Comes in basically flipped at an OLB position. And as far as EDGE players he's bottom of the barrel in size. Smaller players can be useful, but you have to have a plan for them because they tend to get blocked more easily and hurt more if they have to take on big uglys consistently.

In a perefrct would he would be an 1 1/4" taller, but he's by no means small. Where are you getting that data from? 1985? Darron Lee, Shaq Thompson, Ryan Shazier...all recent 1st round picks and all under 6'2 240. The modern day 4-3 LB is not 240+. Not when they have to cover these freak TE's running 4.5's.

Fastest LB at the combine. 4.52!!

And that just earned him a solid draft grade in first round. Prior to that he was a high 2nd rounder who might make it into the bottom of the first. Solidly in the middle of the first now. That's too bad, he would have been a great pick for the Cowboys. Real playmaker.

My fear is that we would get run over in a 3-3-5 look worse than the 2000 defense that allowed four 200 yard rushers.

I'm not opposed to drafting Reddick, I'd just prefer to see us maintain the 4-3 front and use Reddick the same way that the Vikings use Anthony Barr at OLB.

What about Tyus Bowser in the same role? Not quite the play maker, a bit more raw, but athletic as hell. I thought we could get him in the 3rd, but with his strong combine, might have to be 2nd.

Like him too, and you're right he went from a mid round pick all the way up to 2-3 after combine. Derek Rivers also a favorite.

Yep. Rivers is a nice one. I am starting to feel that the pass rushers that we could get in the 2nd might be as good as the guys that have been mocked to us at the bottom of round 1.

Yes, pro days don't always reveal a whole lot because they are conducted in a controlled environment where the athletes are most comfortable. But Haslett, one of the league's top defensive coaches for decades, was impressed enough to call over Reddick for a lengthy chat once the 22-year-old former walk-on was finished.

"He took the opportunity and look what he's done with it," Haslett says. "As a whole, he's a young guy with a lot of potential. He has very good speed and moves well."

But Haslett — and Reddick — both recognize there are questions about where Reddick might line up in the NFL.

"He's played multiple positions, and versatility helps with teams that are patient and will work with him and give him time to develop," Haslett says. "His natural position has yet to be determined."

Reddick agrees, and says he'd play anywhere he's asked to in the NFL. But at 6-foot-1, 237 pounds, he almost certainly will start out as an outside linebacker.

"Outside linebacker in a 3-4 system is most natural to me," Reddick says. "Because of the type of player I am, how fast I can learn the game, I know that if I'm put at inside linebacker I can be the best at that as well."

Now that the combine and pro day are behind him, Reddick will have personal workouts for NFL teams. He wouldn't say which teams have reached out to him, citing a confidentiality agreement with them. He did say there were "many teams" that have contacted him to come to their facilities.

I'm only talking 3-3-5 on third downs.
